you have to take into account on how high the cost to make them is . Also the time and labor involved in the process. Why do u think fewer people are making them it's a pain to make them .In your entire body by the time ur done so don't critize the price unless ur able to do it for less.Have u been living under a rock? Besides at $10 it only almost only 85 cents per tamale you can't even buy anything at Mc Donald for less than a $1.So quit complaining make em, eat em ,n shut up.

So wrong. It doesn't cost crap to make them. It's seems the labor cost is the only thing that has gone up. Other posts have already disproved your argument by leading people to $7/dozen tamales that probably taste better anyway because they are being made traditionally, not commercially. And since when do people order tamales by singles anyway?

what world are u in it don't cost anything except labor. Let me know what stores gives the meat and rest for free . Obviously you haven't order tamales at a restaurant cause the most they give u is 2 tamales not a dozen but u pay like it was a dz.If I like the ones they are selling on the streets I'll pay for a good tasting one since I am not confident to make them. But tamales supplies are high regardless what u say. Otherwise all of Cotulla wouldn't be going to Pearsall HEB for groceries.Whether $7 or $10 great these people are keeping up with tradition.

I bought some of these tamales and let me tell you, they are very salty. I wasn't able to eat one cause they are awful. I thought maybe the lady had a bad batch that day but a friend of mine said he had bought some and had the same problem. Too much salt.

The price of food is definitely going up, and it takes a great deal of effort to make "GOOD" homemade tamales. I would definitely pay $10 or whatever for a dozen, but I don't like tamales. It is not greedy to charge a reasonable amount, these tamale makers put in their time, effort, ingredients as well as their overhead, such as their home, utilities, etc. All these costs need to go into the costs of making tamales and let's not forget for their efforts these people deserve to make a profit. I am sure these people make very little profit since it seems there is some competition in Cotulla.
