I tried using an $18.88 coupon today for an oil change. The employees said I couldn't use the coupon because I brought my own oil -(I don't like theirs). I said what's the difference - I'm paying you $18.88 for an oil change and you don't have to provide the oil. They said that they would do it for $21.99 and would not top off the fluids. I promptly pulled out of their establishment - Bait and Switch - Very Oily Business Practices - unchanged from 3 years ago. They'll get busted again soon!

I never thought to bring my own oil; is that a common practice? If they do it all then they should honor the coupon; maybe it was a confused employee.

I hope they do shut them down...Or Retrain the employees! I used to go there, and they have left items in the engine compartment.(rags, etc) They have told me that certain fluids need to be changed and I just had them done at other places...I don't and would not trust them anymore!!!!

long ago i used to take my cars to these sort of places... till they messed up something and then hid behind cooperate policies... basically if your car has over 100,000 miles on it and you take it to them and they forget to put oil in it... it's not their fault.

from then on i changed my own oil.

they don't use proper washers on the drain plugs so the car leaks oil all the time, they forget to tighten filters, neglect to put in fluids or put them in the wrong places...

just do it yourself... the service economy is headed for disaster...

I went to get an oil change and was told I needed a new battery. I told them I would get another opinion and left to the shout, "you'll be lucky if it starts in the morning. I said that because One month ago I had replaced this battery and I knew this was an obvious scam. I keep detailed records of all service done to my car and know what is realistic. Don't mess with ladies.

I just went to EZ Lube because Jiffy Lube that I have gone to for 13 years was closing. They informed me that I needed my transmission fluid changed and raditor fluid changed at 24,000 was required and I loked in my maintenance book and it did not say. I only knew that I did not need to do this on my last car (Ford) for 50,000 miles. But not familiar with foreign cars. I have a 2007 Mazda 3. So they lied and it cost me over $100 in addition. Please note I am writing to the better business bureau also

I just recently went to the arcadia branch to get a normal oil change. I keep up with my car so I know what needs to be done. The "manager" tries to sell me a flush and injector service which I refused. He then hastily rushed back to give me a discount from $ 154 to $ 125 which i didn't even ask for...again i said no thanks... third time's a charm he now offers me a $50 gas card....Dude!!! I don't want it. There is nothing worse than getting haggled for a simple oil change. Two days later i realize they didn't close my filter box and left the steering fluid cap off. My advice is to just do it yourself or go your trusted mechanic. There's only one place i would go to and that would be oil stop, they don't work on commission and are customer service oriented.

I just read the previous post and we had almost the identical experience. I went in for a regular oil change at the EZ Lube branch in Arcadia. Talk about pressure and scam artist!(actually not an artist at all) After you wait for your oil change the "manager" of the store says he needs to see you outside for 5 minutes. Then he goes on and on about how damaged my car is and he's surprised it's still running. He then goes on to say I need all of these services that will cost me $280! Then he goes on to say he'll give me a deal for $180! I told him I'd have my boyfriend take care of it! Especially if you are a woman - they are dirty sales people! BEWARE DO NOT GO TO THIS BRANCH - or any other EZ Lube - this is the last time for me - they are horrible!!!!!

Well...the Arcadia branch of "EZ Lube" is shut down, so I went to the next-closest in Pasadena, CA.(I went there before the Arcadia branch opened)
I had a coupon for the $18.88 oil change and lube. They rang up $37.78 on the estimate, told me I needed an air filter, then later after I'd told them to be sure to lube the chassis zerks (grease fittings on some cars, this is a GMC Van), the "Manager" said, "They're full!"
Well, I worked at gas stations...."service stations" when I was in high school, and I pulled out a flash light (it was dark) and looked myself at the ball joints, the tie rod ends and related steering and suspension parts THAT REQUIRE BEING GREASED.
The rubber boots were flat...probably hadn't been lubed at the other branch of EZ Lube I'd been going to. The "manager" said, "Okay, ya' want me to blow 'em up?" (Explode them by forcing too much grease into them) I replied, "No, just please properly grease the van." He went through the motions, but I couldn't watch him closely, so opted to trust him since I'd already "caught" them not doing the work ordered and paid for.
When I got the invoice, it had "6 quarts of oil", and the other mechanic told me my van takes "...6 quarts of oil," and that they had to charge me more for that reason. I told him I'd had and worked on small block Chevy/GM V8 motors for decades, and never heard that one.
So I, being late already, opted to trust that somehow they did put 6 quarts of oil in the van's motor.
I paid and went to get gasoline a couple miles East. I pulled out my flashlight, turned the wheels to the left lock, and checked the grease fittings. The top ball joints and some of the steering joints were NOT greased. I was furious! While the van was getting gas, I checked the owner's manual, and it said as I KNEW, the motor takes 5 quarts of oil, not 6 as these con-artists had told me. I checked the engine oil and it was OVER-FILLED.
I finished gassing the van, and drove back to the EZ Lube in Pasadena on Foothill Boulevard, across from Sears. The "manager" met me in the back.
I asked why he didn't grease the van after I made a special point...twice...to ensure he did. He lied, saying, "I did grease it."
I took the flashlight and showed him the top ball joints and the other steering ball-joints not greased.
After 3 or 4 times of lying through his teeth, and some increasingly-coarse language of mine (I was torqued!), he finally admitted he didn't grease all the zerks. I told him I didn't appreciate being told that he did, and I didn't appreciate being charged for 6 quarts of oil, when the owner's manual says it takes 5 quarts.
He blabbered something about being instructed by the dealers to put 6 quarts in this motor, and even smaller GM motors and showed me some screen on him computer. IT WAS AN EZ-LUBE instruction, not from GM or Chevy.(Probably more corporate scam instructions)
They finally pulled the van in and used 2 mechanics to get the grease hose onto my top ball joint zerks.
This is going to more places than this site, maybe to their corporate offices, BAR (Cal Bureau of Automotive Repair), BBB (Better Business Bureau), and the lawyers.
By the way...I had my wife take our other car to Purrfect Auto for similar work....IT WAS WORSE!!!!!
Must I do it ALL myself???? Anybody know of an honest auto mechanic, politician,....I'd better not try to list them all!
I hope this helps YOU!

I got my oil changed at an E Z Lube in long beach ca 01/17/10. The tech told me I needed a new battery. I then went to my mechanic to have my battery tested and it was perfectly ok. EZ lube wanted to charge me $109.00 plus tax for a Delco battery that sells at your local parts house for $77.00 These guys are scam artist Buyer beware !

My two sisters and I went to EZ Lube in Lomita California yesterday to get an oil change for my sister's boyfriend's car, they also did a tire rotation.. When we were driving off my sister noticed something strange with the car, didnt think much of it and we drove on the freeway. As we were driving on the freeway my sister tried to brake because trafic was slowing down and THE BRAKES FAILED!! we couldnt stop, luckily the car in front of us moved out of the way and we didnt crash... We got off the freeway and we accidently ran two red lights because the car brakes wouldnt work.. The car finally stopped and we parked the car and called EZ Lube and told them what happened and they said it couldnt have been their fault because they dont do anything with brakes.. Really?!?! how do you not do anything to brakes if you just did a tire rotation?!?! If there was a problem with the car then wouldnt we have noticed when we were driving the car 50 miles earlier before getting to EZ Lube?!?! And why didnt they tell us that there was something wrong with the car before we left?!? So the tow truck finally arrived and the guy took us to his own autoshop and told us that EZ Lube did do something wrong with the tire. He then fixed it and the car was all good!:) But anyways I DO NOT LIKE EZ LUBE!!! WE COULD HAVE DIED! AND THEY DIDNT CARE AT ALL!! BEWARE EVERYONE THAT GOES TO EZ LUBE!

I've seen them everywhere but in the back of my mind, I just couldn't trust them for some reason so I have never paid for their service.
