Woman gets 18 months for withholding food from child

Christina Renfro was sentenced Friday in Linn County Circuit Court to 11 2 years in prison for withholding food from a young girl in her charge. via Albany Democrat-Herald

ANd she's got the balls to say, she's been affected by "losing respect within her community". You stupid bi**h, you starved a kid, you don't DESERVE any respect !! I'll bet HER azz didn't go without food. Round up all these stupid azz people, male, female, parent or not, all races, creeds and religions, do the world a BIG favor and just snap a cap in the back of their heads. Said she was sorry her other kids were "drug through this", is she serious ? SHE dragged them into it by making them witnesses, and more than likely, participants in her criminal act. As my great aunt used to say, "It's a sign of the times and a end of days". Man, some people just p*ss you off, don't they ?

It does make one wish that it was a legal requirement to take parenting classes and pass a parenting license test, doesn't it.

Unfortunately, such a test is no guarantee of good parenting either. We require people to take a class and test/license to drive cars, yet many STILL manage to wreck cars and cause injury/death to others by driving while drunk or on druge. I can't believe this woman got only 1.5 years; IMO she should have gotten at least five years, preferably more.

You're right. I've always said, you need more proof of responsibility to adopt a pet from a animal shelter. I feel the same thing about drunk driving, why in the world do they allow people to have more than two DUI's, if you get caught after that first one, then once you hit the third, require you to take public transportation with a special pass, random alcohol testing as part of probabtion, etc. Just a whole birage of requirments to make it near impossible to get away with it again, and if you do, then doing some time would be in order. It's par for the course in how our society views children as property of the "parents", I suppose. We had a SPCA in this country before we had a child welfare agency. The first case of "recognized" child abuse was reported and taken by the SPCA ! People who are PROVEN GUILTY commiting crimes against children need to be exterminated, it's as simple as that. This was systematic, calculated, deliberate STARVING of a child, who as a result, needed medical attention. I, and more importantly a defendant, hope I never get selected for jury duty on these types of cases. I'd go over evidence to assure of no mistakes, and if proven guilty, go for the maximum, hands down.

Agreed. I'm only surprised that more people aren't offering opinions on this story. I hope that is NOT an indicator that some people think this kind of "parenting" (starvation of a child as a "disciplinary method," if that's how it's being presented) is acceptable! I've lost count of how many times I've actually seen defendants being excused for excessive "spanking" of a child that somehow "got out of hand." @@

I wonder if they're thinking this is just a kid who went to bed without dinner one night. We never used that with our kids, because to me, a child going hungry is just cruel punishment. I have made a kid leave the table while everyone else had dessert. I've also had to give my kids a whack on the rear a couple of times, but never a spanking. Didn't really ever need to, thanks mostly to my Bride. Good home training from day one. It was my understanding with spanking that if it leaves a bruise, it's excessive, or is it's out of a certain range, it's excessive. But, THESE people are just WAY off the scale. Drowning, beating, starving kids, I wonder if people have just gotten so use to hearing about these things, they've just grown immune or numb to it. How; I wouldn't even begin to know. I mean, when a guy videos himself molesting a 3 & a 6 yo and there isn't a lynch mob everyday outside the jailhouse calling for his immediate execution, I'm stunned.

I hope like hell this isn't a true happening for you, but if it is, you need to tell someone that isn't just behind a screen, but a official who can help you. If it isn't true, do you know what you do to people who truly care about kids and their plight and how helpless it can make them feel ? If you need help, get it. If you can get to a computer, there are resources to help.

If this had been a care giver to my children, she would never have made it to court, thereby not embarrassing her and her kids. 1.5years? are you kidding? did she at least lose parental rights also?

i think she is a very kind lady and i knowshe starved those poor kids but she is sorry and feels bad about it i accept that.

Wow, thats pretty horrible.

I have 2 young kids. I know they eat anything and everything except liver. Which I don't eat, so I do not expect them to eat.

But geeze...

Now, if I know 100% at dinner time, I made them something that they eat. And they pull this, I'm not hungry mess on me. We put a lid on it and place on the counter for a hour or so, then they come back wanting CEREAL of all mess.

Nah! Don't float with me. Eat whats for dinner or go to bed hungry.

They choose which one they want. Now, if at 11pm they are ready for dinner then we go heat it up. That is if they want to eat what was cooked.

I can not see starving a child.
At some point the child had to complain with pains and so on.
