There's really no need for you to waste your time reading this article. I'll tell you how this works. First, you go to one of these "doctors". I'm pretty sure someone on the premises has to have an MD license. You make up some kind of ailment, pay them off, and they give you a something to take to the pot guys. You go to the pot guys, choose from their wide assortment, and the next thing you know, you're on your couch taking bongloads and watching Gilligans Island. And pondering Lifes Great Question. Mary Ann or Ginger?...

Far and above the addiction to dangerous illegal drugs is the addiction problem of US Government "approved" and "Legal" drugs. These "Legal" drugs are developed by the highly profitable Government licensed and Government controlled Big Drug industry.

These "legal" drugs are usually prescribed by Government licensed "doctors". Their cost is heavily subsidized by the hard working overburdened American taxpaying minority. These dangerous "Legal" drugs are usually dispensed through Government licensed pharmacies.

The pothead advocacy blog, sanrafael.patch.com/ poses the question "How Does Medical Marijuana Work?" Government licensed and Government controlled "medical" marijuana "works" the same as any other marijuana. According to one of Government's own taxpayer funded web pages:

"Smoking marijuana leads to some changes in the brain similar to those caused by cocaine, heroin and alcohol."

"According to Dr. Marvin Seppala, the Chief Medical Officer at the Hazelden Foundation, a prominent drug recovery center in Minnesota , "The younger people begin using marijuana, especially before the age of 21, the likelier they are to become addicted to an addictive substance. Their addiction is both physiological and psychological.Studies on the brain have shown that pot use alters the hippocampus and affects short-term memory. As an adolescent, there are remarkable experiences that contribute to growth. These need to be set down into memory—and pot use stops this."

"In an article in the Journal of General Internal Medicine respected scientists at Yale University concluded that smoking marijuana is associated with an increased risk of many of the same respiratory problems that afflict cigarette smokers including shortness of breath, wheezing, chronic bronchitis, coughing and phlegm.2 Researchers also found that marijuana smoking may also expose a user's respiratory system to infectious organisms such as molds and fungi. That's because many marijuana plants are already contaminated with different kinds of fungal spores."

"For young users, marijuana can lead to increased anxiety, panic attacks, depression and other mental health problems. For those already prone to depression or anxiety attacks, marijuana use may accelerate or exacerbate problems."

Despite the many specious claims made by pothead proponents, marijuana is not "medicine".

"The American Medical Association urges that marijuana's status as a federal Schedule I controlled substance be reviewed with the goal of facilitating the conduct of clinical research and development of cannabinoid-based medicines and alternate delivery methods. This should not be viewed as an endorsement of state-based medical cannabis programs, the legalization of marijuana, or that scientific evidence on the therapeutic use of cannabis meets the current standards for a prescription drug product."

"In 1999, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) released a landmark study, concluding that “(t)here is little future in smoked marijuana as a medically approved medication.”In fact, the study found that there is little or no medical value to smoked marijuana for virtually any ailment it examined including muscle spasticity, movement disorders, epilepsy, or glaucoma. While the report recognized that THC may be potentially therapeutic for some conditions, such as vomiting, nausea, pain and appetite stimulation, the report recommended that further research be conducted into the possible use, in limited circumstances, for the specific active ingredient THC---but not smoked marijuana."

Source: http://www.justthinktwice.com/factsfiction/fi...

Those who are so "ill" that they "need" to smoke pot should have every RIGHT to do so in a Government medical facility where they can be kept under close supervision by qualified medical personnel until they overcome that "need".

Pot, alcohol illegal drugs and prescription drugs are all a huge problem in the USA…..
All of them should be kept out of the hands of children…….
But pot may be the least harmful of the list……..
I watched my mother in law die from cancer and the only thing that gave her any peace in her last 6 months was pot………

Ever notice that the anti pot people can never come up with an argument based on sound science from credible sources or based on reason? Just self righteous posturing! That's all they have !

I agree. The anti pot crowd often fails to provide reference to studies that are based on sound scientific and medical reasons to continue the ban on pot. That puts we open minded and tolerant individuals at some disadvantage, because we must waste time re-explaining that which should be evident to all without the need for explanation.

Here is a link to an excellent (free access) article in the scholarly journal "Learning & Memory" entitled "Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Learning and Memory Impairments Produced by Cannabinoids". Referenced in the article are citations to numerous studies justifying continued opposition to revolutionary Government's efforts to legalize,(and therefore to tax), dangerous mind destroying pot.
