There are times you can blame the City if you want, I don't believe this is one of them. It is shame to loose those ten jobs, but there is just not enough demand for the products they produced. Even if the City had offered them free property taxes I doubt it would have been profitable for them to remain open.

What we need to be watching is the effort our County and City put out to retain the 290 plus jobs at the Corsicana "State Home".

That's been worrying me, too. That would be a huge loss of jobs and would be devastating for so many people here. Isn't the state slated to close some of those facilities?

Not trying to hijack your thread, Randall but this is related to job losses here in the 'Can. Here's an article about the TYC which includes a map of all their facilities in TX. If you click on each facility, you can see what % is full in each facility and how much each one costs per inmate. Corsicana's facility costs the most/inmate and is I think 61% full. It says in the article that closings will be based on things other than cost. They seem more concerned with abuse of inmates, etc than costs/person. And, of course, if the facility were full to capacity, presumably the cost/inmate would decrease. But JGK is correct, we can't lose almost 300 jobs out here so the County and City better make a case for keeping ours open and absorbing populations from the facilities that do close. That would keep 300 jobs here and create another 50 or so, most likely, due to the added population of the facility. I don't live too far from the place, and it makes me nervous but if it means we keep jobs, I'll just keep locking my doors and do some more target practice!

Oh don’t you worry, we are giving raises to our city employees, so if we lose more jobs in town we just raise their taxes…
