I heard through the grapevine that Jerry is being replaced on Talk Time, and that this is his last week. Has anybody heard anything?

I did. He thanked me for my concern, but politely said he wouldn't be able comment on it until Friday. Hmm...

Something's changed. Jerry's not at the station all day anymore. He used to be the one who edits our church program every week. Now another guy does it.

I doubt they'd let him go. Too many people listen to Jerry on Talk Time every day. The new owners can't be stupid enough to get rid of him.

Normally in radio if they let someone go, they don't tell them and then put them back on the air. Since Jerry responded nicely to Zeke that he would not be commenting until Friday I expect he is in on making the change. People change jobs, people change shifts, hopefully we will be happy with what Jerry tells us on Friday. or least happy for Jerry if he is making a change.

I can't believe that he did all that work for that long, with no financial remuneration. What a devotion of time and effort. Jerry is to be commended, and proved what an honorable man he is.

I was disappointed to hear that the station was on borrowed time for so long... but David Yates never had the financial backing to follow through with his plans... and then the economy tanked... making it worse for all involved.

I don't know what the future holds for KAND, but I hope they don't go wild with new formats. You don't need to fix what isn't broke... and you can't get blood out of a turnip... so, I hope they don't look at the station for it's financial value only, but consider the intrinsic value to the community.

Here's what he put on his website:

An open letter to listeners of KAND and Talk Time:

Almost three years ago, following Roy Miller's untimely death, I was hired by Dick Aldama as the host of Talk Time. I really didn't know what to expect, but to my great relief, you accepted me and supported me from day one. I'm very grateful.

Two months into the job, Northland Cable announced the station would close. What a shock!

Along came a new owner, David Yates. In addition to hosting Talk Time, I was promoted to Head of Production. A short while later, when the economy tanked, there was no money for employee salaries. I had two choices: quit working and watch KAND fold; or keep working for no pay until better times. Well, I decided to keep working and do whatever I could to keep KAND on the air. I've put in long hours almost every day, worked most weekends, plus I've been on call pretty much 24/7. Most of you don't know this, but I drew no salary for over a year. However, at the end of the day, I must say my devotion to KAND was rewarded as I learned a lot, met a lot of you loyal listeners, and it was fun.

On March 1st, David sold KAND to New Century Broadcasting. I was told that now I would be the Operations Manager. Not really knowing what that required, I asked for a job description. Due to the fact that there were so many extra duties and responsibilities involved, and that I was already overburdened and exhausted, I felt I had no choice other than to respectfully decline the new position. I made it clear, however, that I would be happy to continue as host of Talk Time, in production, and as a board operator, as needed. I said I'd be glad to work on a part-time, full-time, or hourly basis.

To my surprise, they simply said they excepted my "resignation."

At that point I had the option of leaving, but doing that would hurt the radio station that I care so much about. Plus, I just couldn't leave on a bad note. I told them I'd continue to host Talk Time until my replacement was found. Well, that day has come.

I'm saddened by their decision. I had hoped to remain with KAND and Talk Time for many years. A very special thanks to Mary Sikes and Dick Aldama. It's been my pleasure to know and work with both of them.

I thank each and every one of you for your support, loyalty, and friendship. I will miss you.

I don't listen to Talk Time anymore. It's become somewhat boring and lacking character. Jerry made it fun.

If I want to see what's for sell, I just go to the KAND website. It's all listed there, and it takes a fraction of my time.

Thanks. I didn't know that, either. I quit listening, too.
I wish they'd bring Jerry back to Talk Time.

I asked Jerry about that a while ago. When he first started as host, he repeated everything, but was told to stop by the guy who was his boss at the time. The idea was that he could spend less time on each call and take more callers.

When the new owners took over, Jerry insisted that he be allowed to bring back buying & selling animals. He also introduced taking emails and started allowing callers looking for work. He didn't suck. He made the show better.

I just found out our "local" station, KAND, is not really local after all. It's owned by people who are in Cameron. Sure, they hired Dick Aldama back so they'd sound local, but follow the money. Our local advertising dollars leave here and go somewhere else.
Also, they guy they hired to replace Jerry was shipped in from Montana!

I'm not crazy about the new guy, either. Bring Jerry back. He made it interesting.
