its sad indeed when a local business owner has to close their business in downtown corsicana the story is at www.corsicanadailysun.com some day this whole town will cease as a town our city leaders are not very bright i see why ennis and waxahachie are thriveing they want business here the current city leaders do not. i see why our young people leave here to find a better life in other communities. there are more jobs in other areas we have already lost the kohls call center and the home depot distrubution center a very sad day for this area.

Downtown continues to dwindle, one business at a time. It seems to me that local government should be doing everything within its power to keep the business community alive, not imposing more rules, regulations, and financial hardships.

Oh, well.

Might as well build the loop around Corsicana and call it a day.

That is a shame. Nice people and really tasty food. Someone commented about taking up a collection to pay for the plumbing. I'd be willing to donate but from the article, it sounds like the owner was looking to sell the place soon anyway. So I would hate to contribute to something that would be gone in a year or so if no one bought him out.

The people running the city hate small business they will do anything to attract big companies but small business in town are ignored and abused by inspectors and regulators (city attorney and city manager). I just hear people complaining but no changes. Wake up people, change the current administration!

Just try to start a business in the downtown area...
City leaders would be happy planting churches in every corner they can find especially in that area…

I wonder what the Mayor will do to change the image because every person I talk to now believes that Corsicana leaders are so corrupt, before it was a small amount of mad people but lately I have talked to people working for the city and people that is well connected and believe me, perception is a reality in peoples mind!

I talked to a person that works at “ROYS”. Told me that they really are a bar. They are open at nights and they sell alcohol. Same for “REMINGTONS”. These places opened as restaurants because the City Manager wont allow bars in the downtown area (she wont allow people she dislikes is a better way to say it), anyway, these places are operating as bars and clubs in reality. They are selling more alcohol than food. By law they are supposed to sell 51% food. They are getting away with it because the owners are well connected with the City Manager and the City Attorney. I always wonder why some people can break the rules in Corsicana and some people is persecuted and abused…
Any ideas why?

This new regulation will force many small restaurant owners go out of business. The City Management doesn’t care about small business owners.

We had many people applying to bring attractions to Downtown but the CM, Brown and city council stopped them. Now they want people to bring attractions. They are so stupid!

“When you lose downtown restaurants you lose a main attraction,” he said.

To The Insider:
Although I don't get the time to visit this forum very often due to heavy work commitments, the few times that I am able to read the comments, I find it very interesting indeed to read your ongoing accusations regarding city/county/any other form of local leadership and negative opinions about the overall community.
Your latest unfounded ranting about city leadership (mayor and cm) keeping out "attractions" from the downtown district is amusing at best --- and totally ridiculous at worst.
Insider: now that you have made the accusation, I am interested to read your PROMPT response the SPECIFIC " many attractions" the city leadership has intentionally "stopped".
Insider: I am VERY interested to read your very specific listing of ALL of these attractions....

Read old posts in TOPIX and read news about private clubs in Downtown. You are obviously new in this forums. I’m not going to give you what you want. Read about Rick, Jimmy, Downtown private clubs and liquor licenses. Corsicana Daily Sun have deactivated the search engine so good luck with that… Go to their office and ask them all about the Downtown news or the city trying to regulate “BYOB” against the state rules. How “Roy’s” was able to open as a Bar in a few days when many other people where denied permits, Places like the “Remington” or the “Hales” operating without specific permits that the CM and CA were forcing others to apply.
Do your research I wont do it for you, you are not only ignorant about the situation but lazy too…

Read about the regulations they passed about Downtown. That was the city’s solution to all the downtown problems to pass more regulations…

Funny things is that the leaders claim to be “Republicans”, you know,“Republicans” don’t believe in passing regulations… Hahahahaha!

Hahahaha! Your last sentence really got me, Mr. Wasabi. THAT is something we totally agree on. The total hypocrisy of the modern 'Republican' party. Ike is rolling over in his grave 24/7. Once the 'moral' majority took over, the majority of the party became like a 3 stooges episode. I'm a moderate and laugh at both parties, whilst crying for our country simultaneously. And yes, I am brave enough to post that even in the Reddest county I've ever inhabited. As someone who has voted all sides R,D,L, GREEN even, I get the most ridiculous mail from all sides. But the R's, hands down, are the funniest correspondents. And the most fear mongering. Anyway, thanks for making me guffaw.

Noah: This explains some of what Mr. Wasabi (my affectionate name for 'The Insider') is referring to:

http://corsicanadailysun.com/local/x212391213...

I wasn't here at that time and have no fact based opinion either way but thought I'd save you a little google time. However, I must say that this article does smack somewhat of favoritism. Unless there really were numerous problems at the venues and not unsubstantiated complaints. And if the 'neighbors' who complained were just upset that a bunch of non whites were congregating in their 'white' downtown, I take issue with it. That said, I seem to recall numerous incidents of assaults at Roy's in the last few years, one involving a local physician. Where there are drunk people, there will be incidents. I have met some wild folks the few times I have gone out in Corsicana. Maybe it's all of the pent up frustration amongst the natives here. Personally, I think it's over serving b/c bars want to make money. Oh, and I posted this on another thread but it got eaten by the topix monster. Corsicana needs a TAXI SERVICE.

They make a living spreading fear and hate. Sad days for the “Republican party”. They always talk about Reagan, their hero. Reagan: double the national debt, raise taxes more than ten times, amnesty for illegal aliens, sold arms to Iran and Iraq and a lot more… Still I laugh every time the stupid Republicans quote Regan, makes me wonder what would Reagan think about the “new Republican party”?

By venues you mean?
No problems that I Know and as you can see Jimmy was not even allowed to open, same with the owners of the “greens” building and the “Steak house” in downtown. About 5 permits denied… Now they want attractions an people to invest. They are crazy!

Ugh. GB is a scourge and I'm so glad I moved away from DFW now that he is stinking it up with his vile views. He is nothing but a muckraking fear monger profiting from the grossly uninformed, as he continues to misinform them further. He really ticked me off with his Debra Medina stunt during the TX Gov primaries. But really, it all started with Rush. Talk radio from either side of the aisle repulses me. Don't tell me what to think; I have a brain and also, stop yelling on the radio, jerks. I am a sensitive lady and prefer to be spoken to CALMLY! You like to yell, Mr. Wasabi, but I still like ya! Don't be too flattered, I like most folks. ;o)

I think Reagan would be ashamed OF HIMSELF for letting the crazy ball get rolling. He really wasn't such a bad guy in many ways. Still, I blame him for a great deal of what has happened to the Grand Old Party. And any R that invokes Reagan today is insulting the poor man. He does not represent today's R's in any way, shape or form, outside of the religious aspects.

And yes, I meant the venues. I didn't re-read the article. I read it months ago when you first posted it. So, my comments may be inaccurate. Busy day.

Totally agree. That crazy “fat ass”(Rush) said he was leaving the country because Obama-care, I cant wait for that day to happen but it will never be real, please tell me in what country he will get paid 100 million for spreading lies, hate and trash over the radio, no other country in the world would pay that “fat ass” that money, only Americans (right wingers) are crazy enough… The guy has been married 4 times and accuses “Obama, the dictator” of attacking the holy marriage, please…
