I didn't feel sorry for Erin Howard at first, because it seemed as though she was ambivalent about her son's death -- it looked that way when she went to a bar after attending his funeral. Drunkenness is what caused the accident in the first place.
But now I'm feeling some sympathy for Howard, as she faces a lonnnng prison sentence for killing her child.
I think she IS remorseful and the heartache she will live with the rest of her life is more punishment than the courts could give her.
Why is she looking at a 32-year sentence -- and Teri Rhodes won't even do two years?

I don't know much about this case but I hope Martin Allen gets a 32 year sentence. Erie Cokes defense team want the judge to just order him back to Michigan if he promises never to return to PA. No jail time other than time served over the weekend. What a joke. He killed a young man for no reason. Tasting that nice cold one...or two..or three going down his throat was more important than the safety of others. He's only sad because he's scared he's gonna land in jail for years...he's not sorry for what he did. Not once have you heard any kind of statement in court or news that he expresses remorse.

I don't think 32 years is long enough--she willfully drove drunk with her son in the car--she's lucky she didn't kill someone else's son also. No sympathy for a drunk here. My sons were in a car hit by a drunk driver at 3 in the afternoon and she was 3 times over the limit--it was her 3rd offense--she had no license and no insurance--these people are unrepentent until they kill someone and are facing real jail time.

What Howard did was horrible, there is a part of me as a mother that makes me wonder if she hadn't done it on purpose. Why take only that one child with you and leave the other children behind? YOu would think that it would have been all of them or none of them in the car that day.
I didn't see where Martin Allen is offered to go back to MI instead of jail time. That wouldn't make sense. He just got out of jail on Wednesday, and at first it was $150,000 cash bond, then switched to $150,000 bond (which would have been $15,000.00) In the end it took $25,000.00. At least this is what has been posted in the paper.

Teri Rhodes kills her newborn baby on purpose and gets a slap on the wrist. This woman kills her son in an accident due to her stupidness and she gets the book thrown at her. Maybe if she has a family that could afford good attorneys like Rhodes's she would get off easy too. This judicial system is a crock. It is not based on guilt or innocent but yet who can afford the better attorney with connections with the judges. What a shame.

"This woman kills her son in an accident due to her stupidness "

Well if it was indeed her 3rd DUI and she didn't have a license then she needs punishment AND HELP to get over this addiction to alcohol.
As a mom the first darn thing you do is PUT THAT KID in the CAR SEAT. I am not positive but I dont believe she did that.

Let's not forget that she also smoked marijuana that same morning before she put her kid in the front seat, unrestrained. I don't feel a bit sorry for her. She said she was trying to flee an abusive relationship, and was going to call her dad for money. If her boyfriend was so abusive, why did she leave her other kids with him? She is a liar and a criminal, and she needs to do serious time, then maybe she will get some counseling and help, and just maybe she will get out and become some kind of productive member of society instead of the white trash that she is.

What horrible reporting yet again by the Times. A picture is painted of this grieving mother who will never get over the death of her child. There is one sentence containing the fact that she left the funeral to go to a bar while on furlough graciously granted to her. This woman drank and drove with her child putting him in harms way ultimately resulting in his death. She then "grieves" by going to a bar. I'm sorry but don't look for pitty from me. The ones I do feel sorry for are her other children. More victims of her bad choices.

It was NOT Erin's third DUI. Don't comment if you don't know what you are talking about!

Unlike you, I don't base MY thoughts and opinions on what someone else thinks, or what THEIR thoughts and opinions are. You are more than welcome to follow the leader, but it makes no difference to me if I'm the only one in the room who feels the way I do. I try to be true to MYSELF ... my beliefs don't change based on a score card. or getting a pat on the head from anyone else.

Lets see, she places her kid, now deceased, in the car while she is intoxicated. Drives, while intoxicated, thus killing her child. And you feel sympathy for her because she will think about this for the rest of her life??Maybe she should have thought about her child first, instead of herself.
