So the Sentinel finally got around to reporting the president of the Central Labor Council is running for the county Board of Education? Though I've seen many posts on the web page reporting that very important fact, past Sentinel features only desribed Chacanaca as an "Educator." He hasn't been an educator since the 1980's when he taught English in China. Given his consistently left wing politics since then, I imagine there might have been some mutual education going on.

As for his claim that his position as the boss of the umbrella organization overseeing the SEIU, local teachers union, etc., not being a conflict on serving on a board supposedly providing balance to the demands of the unions...yeah, right.

I don't understand why you would have a problem with his labor connections after all the head of the county Repub party is already on the COE board. Balance?

The purpose of a "non-partisan" school board is not to provide checks and balances on partisan groups, but it certainly is supposed to provide checks and balances on employees unions. If you don't understand that, then you're obviously the sad result of our current education system...or you're just Chacanaca or one of his union supporters trying to cover his heavily conflicted fanny.

For those who don't already know, the Central Labor Council is also running its political director Daniel Dodge for the Watsonville city council seat being vacated by Greg Caput. There realy does seem to be an effort by local public employee unions to complete the takeover of local decision-making bodies, in addition to the existing method of packing them with preferred candidates, elected with powerful union backing. If they succeed in doing that, then the rest of us had better get used to being tax salaves.

It should make almost everyone around here happy.(this "takeover").
It will further allow the ordinary people around here to have to thing even less
for themselves, which seems to be the way they want it. The people vote and their voices
are heard. Time and time again the same old faces or their clones get re-elected over and over again. Does not this tell you something?? And when you vote these kind of person in, it demonstrates a desire to have less of an involvement and for those elected to do more and more of the thinking for you. It seems to be what the majority want, and so that is what the majority gets. Less time needed to think for oneself, hence more time to go play that whatever dopey game one is playing or whatever other self absorbed thing john Q public out here is doing. Every time it sends a message, "leave me alone to do my thing."

Talk about deluded, there is no mention of 'checks and balances on employee unions' in the oath that a trustee takes. Can you post a link to that requirement?

One more liberal union hack running for office. Is ther any doubt that this guy would vote to retain the status quo in terms of union issues with the board ? This guy is the LAST person who should be elected to that post. We will get from him MORE OF THE SAME OR WORSE. I would sooner vote for the dog catcher...er animal services person. Thank goodness this Gina person is running, she has to be a better choice.

Yes, they do turn scary when they have the power to elect obedient hacks who reward their support by providing them with ever more unsustainable pensions and other benefits. Just look at the state and local government fiscal ruins, the hundreds of billions of dollars in unfunded pensions, etc. Only a fool or a beneficiary of the public employee pension system wouldn't find that scary.

So I guess that makes YOU scary because you can vote. And aren't the governments in fiscal ruin because of Wall Street greed? Are you also condeming the Repubulicans who voted for our state budgets?

Get a clue. Most of the County Office employees are administrators -- there are few "union issues" for a board member to influence. At least this guy has real connections to his trustee area and to public education. I've heard him speak -- he really does get how important it is to provide career opportunities as well as preparing kids for college.

This "Gina person" on the other hand sent her kid to PRIVATE school and thinks she's qualified to represent 1/7 of the county's public school constituents. So, no thanks.

Robert Chacanaca IS the better choice.

What a total lamo you are. I hope you're only a water bearer for the unions and don't actually believe your own words, oh clueless one. Try to blame the Republicans all you can, despite them having no control over the federal budget since 2006 when the Democrats took control of Congress and the purse strings...and the economy dove into the dumper. And the Dems have had a stangle hold on the sinking Californian ship of state for far longer than that. Hey "Accountant" - look up "No Acount" in the dictionary and you'll see your shifty face in the illustration. Now email George Soros and ask him what you should post in response.

Talk about a lamo. I never mentioned the federal budget and the state budgets have passed with Republican support. So much for the 'stangle hold'. So it looks like you're the "No account".

I believe the best people to serve on public boards are those who know what's going on. Robert not only lives in the district, he grew up in it and went to school there. He knows not many kids in that area go to the University, let alone community college.

He knows the need for Technical education and supports more of it for well-trained employees. His political beliefs may scare some of you; I find non-partisan offices full of people whose politics aren't mine but whose ability to get the job done has earned my admiration.

South County has had too many people on the PVUSD or County Board whose mistrust and misunderstanding of the public school system is so great they send their kids to private schools even while they are purportedly supporting it while on the Board.

Vote for the person who supports the students, public schools, public school staff, and innovative Technical curriculum--that's Robert Chacanaca.
