Why is there a seperate "latino" only graduation ceremony?

What about an Asian only or White only graduation?

The headline may include the contract approval but information about it is conspicuously absent in the article. Not one thing on how this contract differs from the last one, if at all, since the college "lost $3.7 million in the past year, including 8 percent in state funding."
Individual programs will hold their own ceremonies, starting with the Latino Graduation Ceremony at 3 p.m. on May 15 at the Crocker Theater.
E Pluribus Unum, not.

I no longer accept the excuse that laid off workers can't be placed elsewhere. If intent is true, there is always a means to re-train workers. Start early and utilize resources available county-wide. This is a see-through detriment at a college where training is rampant. It is an insult to our intelligence. If workers can't be cross trained in education, where can they be? Yes, or course, sans, extra specialized duties. You know what I mean. Step up your game. See if folks want to change careers. This is nonsense.

So, how much of a pay and benefits cut did the teacher's take? The public has the right to know as we the taxpayers are footing the bill! Senile, what are the cuts in wages and benefits?

i have attended Cabrillo for last 12 months and watched its slow demise. Students are sitting on the floors in classes that are overfull. Lines are 2 hours long. The clerical help is rude and unskilled. Financial Aid does not answer the phone or return calls. Substitue teachers are lack in their skills and waste our time and money. One class cost me 500 in books and the teacher was basically a secretary at her regular job who "knew" someone that got her the part time teaching job to replace the full time teacher that was educated and skilled. The full time teacher was fired due to budget constrictions. A waste of space was the part timer so I dropped the class. More classes are dropped and many skilled teachers are gone. The on campus needs for students are not met. I go to West Valley now where the budget is not a issue, and students needs are met with adquate teaching and classes. Cabrillo is not serving the needs of this community with inaquate adminstrators making poor choices for its future.

Makes me wonder why Cabrillo has become such a racist school. Why would Cabrillo hold a special graduation for one group of people? Seems like they could have hired another teacher at the same cost of a racist graduation program.

Also, why did Cabrillo language programs like Chinese and other languages get eliminated yet expand ESL programs? I thought college was about expanding ones horizons and opportunity not dumbing down to one group of people.

The students should hold a protest or something! Equal opportunity for ALL students!!!

Calling like I see it,

This is a common practice. Lot's of schools or areas of study have a smaller ceremony that allows the students to say a few words and celebrate with their fellow students and the teachers from that program. At UCSC, there are commencment exercises for the Baskin Engineering school, College 8,.....

Counseling community college students, many of whom plan to go onto 4-year colleges and programs, is one of the key functions of any superior community college. The failure of the Cabrillo administration and, apparently, the Teachers' Union president to support and fully fund counseling is unconscionable. Under the current administration Cabrillo had gone down the tubes even faster than the State's unwillingness to fund public education.

You guys are idiots...... they are not racist.. They have a graduation for latinos because latinos are most likely to drop out because they have to provide for their family. Unlike everyone else in this country, most latinos do not have a social security, if they did, they wouldn't be working the fields. They'd be sitting in your seat at work. Latinos here are hard working people unlike all these dumb white bums asking for money in the streets while they have a social security and can work. When do you see a mexican begging for money? Never. There are many more reasons.
