Nice article.

I love driving past and seeing his lovely flowers. I remember going to the fair and seeing his name on ribbons on practically every flower, it seemed like.

I wish he'd run for council again.

Joe is a great guy! I remember back in the 80's when I debated Neal Coonerty up at UCSC after attempting to recall three members of the city council. Coonerty made the following brash statement. "How many times can local conservatives elect Joe Ghio?"....meaning that the only candidate conservatives had was Joe.

Now, when we look at how many times Mike Rotkin, Cynthia Mathews, and the rest of the same wacky left have been in those city council seats it seems prepostrous that Coonerty could make such a dumb statement.

Then again, go back to the source...

That's hilarious, Steve. Write a book! Or keep writing these stories down and post them on a blog or something.

That should be a slogan for the opposition in Santa Cruz the next time Rotkin, Mathews, Lane, Krohn, Kennedy or any other progressive fossil runs again. It'd be great to dig up these old quotes to use again.

Pinhead tea party dweebs. The "fossils" who aren't even on the same side of anything? Ugh. Get a life. Go read Fox News, it's where you belong.

Why would they talk about Joe Ghio, Mr. Iris-Never-Ends, and then attach a photo of him with dahlias?

And a good morning to you too.

The reason the Sentinel showed a picture of Joe with dahlias rather than irises is because it's dahlia season and they are in bloom; irises are not in bloom. A picture of irises in September would be rather underwhelming.

Fine, either the headline goes or the photo.
