Willie took violin lessons from my father in the 70's. Dad was annoyed by Willie's long hair, which kept getting tangled. When he couldn't afford a haircut, my dad gave him the money for it.

Your dad sounds like a class act. My dad would have just cut it (mom, really). No money for hircuts in those days.
