Great job to all those involved(Safeway and Law enforcement). Here someone fortunate enough to have a job in these tough times takes advantage of it...you get what you deserve. It will be a felony with the amount taken so hopefully they serve some time and arent given a slap on the hand.

I like the idea of jail time and paying back all the money for the lost(stolen)product. I even like the idea of chopping off a hand but this is the town of gypsies tramps and thieves and here they just don't seemed to want to discipline the criminals, druggies etc.

The Morrissey Safeway is not the East Side of SC. What is wrong with the Sentinel! Figure it out, it's mid-town!

E//S in my book by the way these guys are pretty good. And don't you think that safeway makes over 100% profit and collects the insurance and passes the expense of the theft to the consumer is making out all right

Looking good Rudi

People are so stupid. My company has busted employees doing the same thing with hard drives and such. They didn't even remove the asset tags.

They should charge Chris Hansen, too. He taught these entrepreneurs every level of this scheme on "To Catch a Theif" a couple weeks ago. Maybe the cops should tune into MSNBC once in a while for a lesson.

Walgreens had a recent story on this type of crime. Some stores have locked up all over the counter expensive medicine and other high dollar items to avoid this problem. Just an added cost to the honest consumer.

To Safeway management.........Hire Kermit! With jobs as scarce as they are and him raising a two year old ,him needing a job and your needing employees now that the thieves have been caught..........

Hopefully if these thieves are gang affiliated they most likely already have police records so hopefully they get their "a___s" thrown in jail plus restitution...

"wildman"]It seems hard to believe the stealing had been going on for a long time with all the electronic scanning and immediate updating of inventory. Will that keep the employees from dumping goods into the trash cans and retrieving them to sell later on? Thieves are cowards as are gang bangers.. If someone is set on stealing they will figure out a way no matter what security Safeway or any other business has. I don't shop at Safeway and I didn't realize they had clothes and shoes?

They're talking about the east side of the city of Santa Cruz, not your surfing boundaries.
