lets just teach our kids, get a loser man but don't marry, then the goverment can take care of you, have more kids than you can afford, get on drugs like the other white trash, then head to santa cruz for all the free help in the world. and we can make you look like a hero, forget marrage, accountability, self respect, pride, working just to survive, cause no one gets ahead in santa cruz just by doing right. you need to f up to get ahead around here.

Wow, nothing like rewarding someone for screwing up their and their children's lives for years.

That job at Buena Vista should have gone to a local living a decent life.

Dear Dolores,

Don't mind the xenophobes here, such as "Disgusted in the valley," with their negative remarks. Your triumph threatens their perverse sense of justice and entitlement. As you're already experiencing, some small minded and insecure individuals will always be threatened by your success.

That said, congratulations on all your accomplishments -- you have a great story. I've never been in your situation, but can only imagine how difficult that must have been. Enjoy your day today with your sons and family. Happy Mother's Day. Keep up the good work.

Congrat!!! Not many women or men can come back once they are down to the bottom of the barrel. Know that God is good and what he puts in our path can either make us stronger or kill us. You are one that has made it. I know I have 25 years clean and sober with a wonderful family. I attend a local church every Saturday night and God is Good.

This is why we have no money for schools. Making the working men and women pay for the losers.

Congratulations to you and happy Mother's Day, Delores! The judgemental complainers here obviously live perfect lives and have never known anyone who has experienced hardship or addiction. Addiction can strike ANY family. I think those who judge others when they haven't walked in their shoes are the bigger "losers." They may have never worked at hard at anything as you did when you changed your life. Hopefully they will someday lose the mean-spiritedness and learn compassion for their fellow humans.

some glaring omissions in this story. the children all have the name of her life partner, who, supposedly works in construction. where's hi payheck? NO ONE should have more than 2 children, rich or poor!!! This wasn't a case of a marriage breaking up, unforeseen major illness. this was rolling around, doing drugs while responsible for children. and both parents being totally irresponsible. and the oldest daughter has 2, how many will this be in just a few generations, multiplied by world population?
if she had been responsible and not had any kids, se wouldn't have gotten squat in the help department.
even Habitat for Humanity seems to give the houses to the most prolific breeders. this is not sending out a good message.

And whoever said that Santa Cruz wasn't a magnet for these types?

Sad to read the hard hearts. Scrooge would smile.
It's a long road back in the face of such opposition and hate. Keep up the good work, all of you, including those who helped Dolores and family.

What a disgusting case of over breeding and child abuse! Why wasn't that woman sterilized? Over breeding is gluttony in its most disgusting form.

"For some reason Quinones was drawn to Santa Cruz. She believed there would be better social services there..."

All u people that say your disgusted and look down on this story need to try and take a step in our shoes cuz I'm one of her kids and all of you couldn't even survive what we went through or even attempt what my mom did to get us back. Your low lives that don't know about struggle and the will to fight to survive
