If state marriage laws are to be gender neutral can they continue to discriminate as to participants age?

Agreed, further into the abyss. Some want to be free to do anything they desire, regardless of how it affects others, and they want no consequences.

Well, in that case, you should be rejoicing since they passed the SS marriage law. Ya can start with at least one for now.

Yes. Age is spelled out and not neutral (no "a breathing person"). Gender actually is a reference to sex and sex is not spelled out. They don't expect you to be neutered either.

New Mexico State Constitution

ARTICLE II - BILL OF RIGHTS

Sec. 18.[Due process; equal protection, sex discrimination.]
"No person shall be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law; nor shall any person be denied equal protection of the laws. Equality of rights under law shall not be denied on account of the sex of any person."

What part of "equal protection" do the homophobes not understand?

How, specifically, does two commenting adults getting married negatively affect others?

Its my opinion of morality in this country, another chip removed from the foundation. You have your opinion, I have mine, and nothing will change either of us on that issue I'm sure.

Are you saying we legislate morality? That Legislation is the government's moral equivalent of the Ten Commandments? I don't see laws as having much to do with morality. There are some overlaps. My morality has little to do with the laws. Sometimes they are congruent. I don't look to the laws for morality. Always welcomed if they are present, but that is why there are such concepts as conscientious objection.

I'm reminded of this rather famous, yet sadly anonymous, quote:

"You don't need religion to have morals. If you can't determine right from wrong, then you lack empathy, not religion."

You brought up religion, I didn't. You're just looking to argue. Regardless, the end result is still my opinion and it won't be changing. Doesn't mean I agree with SSM, just that as per the law I must accept it, even if grudgingly.

Nicely said. I would add that religion, like legislation, can enforce your belief in right from wrong.

CD, I have a hard time believing that you, who seems to favor a less intrusive government, would want to legislate morality.
