She doesn't appear to know her staff as well as she should! If they were left over from the old regime, they should not have kept their jobs. But that's typical for the new mexico roundhouse and the people in it..

Surely you people are not blameing this woman for something she didn't do and took action on when she found out. She is the best person we have had forever and you liberals want to ruin that?

OK.

This is not a joke.

It is a prima-facie example of institutional racism in this state

Were this anti-Anglo, Anti-Semitic or Anti-Hispanic, she would be fired immediately.

This is not a joke that appeared on a comedy site.

Rather, this was a government form.

A statement of governmental policy, an oficial form that had been deliberately filled with racist comments and posted for citizens all to see, as an example of 'how it should be done'

Fire her, Madame Governor.

Prove to us that there is justice in 2011 New Mexico for darker skinned people.

Prove to us all that New Mexico is no longer a place for the KKK mindset.

She was not aware of the "Joke" - it is not her fault - so she didn't get rid of someone that was there before her - how many people would be out of work if they just went in and cleared everyone of their jobs and handed it down to family and friends - like our last Gov did - seriously - not her fault - Go Ms. Duran. Hope it all turns out well for her!!

Dianna ought to put on her "big girl panties" and take responsability for this instead of blaming the past Sec. of State.

Seriously, that is a really ignorant statement you made. Like she should know every employee and how they act in the month or two she's even been on the job. Your total lack of management skills are readily apparent.

She's doing the proper thing, following the rules as she should, and the employee who did this stupid thing will be disciplined as the regs allow. Perhaps you'd prefer she doesn't follow the rules...

Where in the article did she blame the past SOS? Are you still mad that Mary lost the election?

The staffer is going to have to resign, no ands, ifs, or buts. As for Duran, she can't watch her staff 24/7 so I will give her the benefit of the doubt and assume that she knew nothing of this before hand. Sorry staffer, you should have had better sense.

Duran is a highly respected individual who does not deserve to be given the name of racist. She herself has a grandson who is half African-American. She is one of the very few people left in this world who does not have a bad thing to say about anyone. As for her employee, it is unfortunate that this happened, but he/she should not be crucified for this regrettable mistake. If this organization was so worried about the racial content on the Secretary of State’s website, why did they not try to resolve this with the Secretary of State herself. This is more about publicity and politics than it is about racism. I am sure Duran would have taken action within and removed the offensive material immediately. Duran and her employees have endured enough harassment and it is time to move on.

The individual who made this mistake was not a non-exempt employee. He/She has been a long time state employee. As a non-exempt employee of any government agency, he/she cannot be fired when new elected officials come in to office. This individual had a bad lapse of judgement and it is being handled appropriately through state personnel. Duran came into office with the mindset that all individuals should be treated equally and be given the opportunity to prove themselves as a good employee. Had that not been the case, she would have let go of a few people already.

The Dems want to keep NM politics as usual and take out an honest hard working person who knows how to clean house and work for the people. I am in total agreement with you.

It may just be that I don't feel well today, but can someone point out in the story where someone calls for Duran to resign? It may be right in front of my face, but I don't see it and was thrown by the title of the story.(being serious here..not sarcastic)
