Probable cause, rights, justice, fair, pffft. Texas-home of one of the worst Presidents in US History, rich oilman and a criminal justice system that admits doing no wrong-pppffffttttt.
The criminal justice system that admits no wrong.
If the police don't screw you the system will. There is no reason to give any state law enforcement their investigations handed to them on a silver platter. This is simply a hypothetical what if scnerio. "Only IF we had checkpoints".
Notice they made it a point to ask for DWI checkpoints hoping for a reactionary/emotional decision and support from the public and courts. These check points would be the first course on a police state menu.
This isn't just about DUI. When the police stop you they run you for warrants etc. If they even think something is " suspicious " they will use that as probable cause for what ever.
Permanent Check Points are nothing but lazy man's law enforcement who want their work handed to them on a silver platter. If law enforcement is that tiring or frustrating for the police in Texas then they should retire or find another line of work. And that's the entire system including prosecutors.

If your doing nothing wrong then you have nothing to worry about. The checkpoints would only be for DWI- Intoxicated drivers. That's how the law is written, and they are legal, just not done. Intoxicated drivers kill more people in TX then anything else. I'm all for it. It's simple don't drink and drive. This would not be for other violations such as DL registration inspection and so on.
Besides its exactly what border patrol does at Sarita and Falfurrias as well as all other immigration checkpoints.

The 'if your doing nothing wrong' slippery slope argument should be retired. I've heard cops say they like car stops because it leads to more arrests.
Many admit that their primary goal from speed traps are arrests and not tickets. They are looking for other things and/or anything to charge you with or get credit for capturing someone on a wanted list.
You give someone an inch they will take a mile. The proverbial foot is in the door when states start putting up random checkpoints. This is an opening police staters love to use.

Once again I stand firm. If your doing nothing wrong then you will not have anything to worry about.
And who cares if its a Licensing checkpoint, DWI checkpoint if you get
- illegal currency
- abducted individuals.
Then it is serving the better of the community.
I'll bet that little girl that was kidnapped a few weeks back wishes she had been through a checkpoint. Then she would have been returned home safe without anything happening to her.

What if scnerio/s. There are alway people in any job that want their job made easier, more productive, more profitable etc. That does not mean the public should have to involuntarily partake in their "productivity" initatives. There is always a different way to do things but that does not mean you should actually do them.
This is a line that should not be crossed. And is nothing but Monday morning quarterbacking the current law and way of doing things.

More productivity. Well ya. It's not like law enforcement is selling toasters trying to run a pyramid scheme or some other gimmick. They are keeping communities safe, removing narcotics, violent criminals, child predators and what ever else.
Anything to help facilitate that I say go for it.
Anyone against making their community safer is simply the one thy there looking for at these dirt bag checkpoints.
