I've known this coach for 14 years. He's a dedicated educator and excellent coach. How sad that a student with obvious issues (like fighting at school) can make such erroneous allegation stick.

Moreover, I'm finding it hard to connect the charge "unlawful restraint" to the allege crime of "he touched my hand." Sounds like a troubled student is trying to get out of punishment for fighting on campus.

No wonder good teachers are so hard to find!

Good teachers are especially hard to find in Mathis. Mathis always has to air their dirty laundry on the news. I heard that the news media was there at the school before the officers even got there. The coach admitted touching her hand and said that he removed them when he noticed she felt uncomfortable. What do parents want? If sexual references were made then why did the charges not reflect this? Is there something else that someone is not stating? What are the parents of this child trying to alude to? If the school was already doing their investigations why did the parents jump the gun and have this done? If I were this coach and it comes out that lies were told, I would sue the child and the parent for ruining his reputation. No professional can recover from accusations like this and having it on the news only further ensures that it will be harder from him to find a job. The family of this girl could have some serious issues if he goes this route. I do believe for the best interest of the child that an investigation should have been done by the school and by the police. If the child's parents had just filed charges against this coach then how was a warrant issued before an investigation was done by the PD. It almost seems like someone jumped the gun and persumed this coach guilty before any formal investigation had been conducted. Aren't we innocent until PROVEN guilty. It seems like both the child and the coach are telling the same story but as with any truth that we believe, there are always two sides. How difficult it must be for this child to go back to her school, after it has been on the news, and everyone knows that it was probably her parents who called the news media. Were her parents not thinking about her or were they just wanting any kind of satisfaction at any cost?

Coach Casarez is a very professional man and has shown our athletes here in Mathis that he cares about them. Yes, there are two sides to every story and it seems there is more to this story.
He cares about our kids and I know my son is looking forward to Coach Casarez coaching him next year at Mathis High School.
Both Coach Casarez and his wife are good people and its a shame this had to happen.
Mathis has some talented kids already in high school and kids moving up to high school. with a coach like Coach Casarez Mathis athletics can only go up!
I for one am hoping that he will stay here in Mathis and continue coaching. He has my support.
For the young lady and her family, well, this is a small town and I am sure that her first day back to school is going to be a nightmare, just as it was for Coach Casarez and his wife when he was escorted out of the high school in cuffs with a tv camera in his face. It is really a shame that the abc affiliate has called it their "exclusive story". If it were such an important story why weren't the other local tv stations trying cover it? Not one station has said a word about this incident.
Unlawful restraint? Give me a break!
Every town has its bad apples.
Coach Casarez isn't one of them.

It's my understanding that the student making the allegations lives with her grandmother. The student, her grandmother, and Coach Casarez met with administrators and they found that Coach Casarez had done nothing inappropriate. Then the student's mother came into the picture (it should be noted that the student does not live with her mother nor does her mother have custody of the student) and it was the mother that went to the police. I think the mother is looking for a quick payday.

I'm sure you who know this man think it's impossible that he did something wrong. Please let me remind you that for years and years, Catholic priests were sexually abusing children all the while people who knew him/them swore he would never have done anything like that. NOT ONE OF US knows what this coach is really like deep down inside him. IF he went into a girls' locker room the should have been fired immediately. Stop blaming the girl. The entire situation will be investigated and dealt with. And it's just possible you who claim to know the coach and what he's like will find out you are mistaken. Just might happen.

i just feel sorry for when the girl goes back to school. they are going to eat her up alive. can you imagine how many more fights she is going to be in now because kids are going to be picking on her. if only the parents would of let the administration handle it and she wouldn't be going through any of this. this little girl is a senior. whats probably going to happen is shes going to quit school cause she can't take being there at school.
And as far as Channel 3, they have the whole story wrong. They add so many lies to it. that it was a sexual advance. No it was just unlawful restraint which has nothing to do with a sexual advance.
Well it just too bad for Coach cause he is a good guy and for a little girl that wants attention because she got in a fight and didnt want to get punished for it she has to RUIN someone else's life!

A previous comment got it right... this young woman is doing her best to avoid the punishment she deserves for fighting at school. After the coach broke up the fight, he went to check on the student to make sure she was ok. The student never made any allegations of sexual misconduct, the sexual harassment stuff came directly from Channel 3 to spice up their story.

Does the Mathis police department arrest everyone who commits a misdemeanor offense. The student's mother (which is not her guardian), the Mathis police, and Channel 3 pulled out all the stops to embarrass this coach. Talk about community theater.

To 'just my opinion':
I have known coach Casarez for a very long time and I can assure you that he was just trying to help this girl. Please don't compare him to a bunch of deviant catholic priests. He is a much better man than that.
I don't know the girl so I don't presume to know her motivations, but I think the most likely scenario is that this is a huge misunderstanding and a 17 year old girl with an overactive imagination.
I think Coach Casarez was genuinely trying to counsel the girl, and she probably tried to walk away from him so he grabbed her hand to get her to listen. In her overactive imagination, she probably misinterpreted this as a 'sexual advance'. End of story.

AS a mother of former students of Coach Casarez, I would like to say I would trust this man with the one thing I could never replace, my children. He has been one of a few who truly care for each student and their well being. He has always shown the up most respect for the students, himself, and the community he represents. This situation has to be a difference of interpretation between this student and her view of what happen. Now knowing coach Casarez he would state the facts and for those who know him would know this to be the case. My prayers for this young lady are that the Lord touch her hart, so that she be forth coming with what she knows is the truth. Coach, keep your head up, as you can see by what has been posted, Your character, reputation speak for themselves, God Bless, MLS-Carrizo Springs

we're pretty sure that you're a low life that coach casarez kicked off the team for either smoking pot or being uncooperative. because you aren't good enough to live up to his expectations, sit back down (perhaps spark it up) and think about what you're really saying. if you haven't noticed you are the only one bashing him on this site.

we have both known coach casarez since '05 and neither one of us have nothing bad to say about him. he is one of the best men that we have the privelege of knowing. he would never make any advances in which he would make any of his players/students uncomfortable. he is not a priest and does not "secretly" rape or abuse anyone for that matter, a priest is no comparison.

he did the most for the players here in carrizo springs and our athletic department will never come into contact w/anyone more qualified for the position as he and his wife were.

we both hope that pamela retracts her statements and apologizes for her false accusations because his life/career is at stake as well as his wife's. he has a beautiful wife and would have no reason to have ruin his marriage w/a 17 year old senior who fights in school and thrives off attention. i hope she knows that everyone is against her (except her family) and whoever does live in mathis will torture her until our coach is let free!

sad little girls, i tell you.
