Whatever you do, DO NOT see DR Shoemaker or Judy Winters at Bay Area. They make it a point to be in the room for as little time as possible. Any concern you have they dismiss it as just part of pregnancy or treat you like you're just being whiney. I was on my third pregnancy with a history of my other two being born at 36 weeks and 34 weeks. Around 32 weeks I went in for my appt and told them that I was having strong pre term labor symptoms. I mean these symptoms were text book. I was told that it was all ok and that it was just because I was getting further along. They determined all this without any type of physical exam or labs. I even asked when my next sono was gonna be and they told me that it would be around 38 weeks. I was like hello!! I've never made it to 38 weeks. I was finally so fed up with them not listening. I went to see a new DR the very next day who then sent me right away to a high risk doctor to have a vaginal ultrasound to find out what was going on. they did blood work that confirmed that it was very possible to go into labor with in two weeks as well as my cervix was contracting on screen. The doctor told me that I had to go directly to the emergency room because I was in preterm labor. THE VERY SAME THING!! I was telling Dr shoemaker the day before. Thankfully they were able to stop the contractions and because of certain high risk measures were not taken early on by Dr. Shoemaker my baby was born at barely 34 weeks.

ALSO: when I first saw dr shoemaker they ordered all the routine blood work. One of the test came back positive for Genital Herpes. Nothing was ever told to me, nothing was EVER said. When I got admitted at 32 weeks by my new doctor for the pre term labor he looked at my transferred records and saw that only that test and no others was positive which he felt was odd so he ordered another test for the herpes virus. The test came back negative from Spohn south when they were positive months before at Bay Area.

Once you test positive you can never test negative. He sent off for a retest which also came back negative. So not only did they not advise me that I, as far as anyone knew at the time, had an STD, they either entered the results wrong in the computer, messed up the blood samples or something else like telling someone they are negative when they really weren't.

They are sloppy, they dont listen, they dont care. If it wasn't for my New doctor, my new baby would have been in the NICU for months.

My first was born at Spohn South, & I used Dr. Mastin, who I will never use again. Dr. Noe Lira is who I am using now. He has a wonderful bedside manner, professionalism with a splash of humor, but most importantly he is thourough and informative.
