I have eaten at Mama Mia's too and I was not too thrilled about it. I agree with you about the marinara sauce. Personally I dont think it is worth the price you pay.
Wow, even though Mama Mia's hasn't received exactly rave reviews on "Topix", I simply must try it out! Honestly, I haven't had marijuana sauce (good OR bad) since the mid-60's.

No such thing in Corpus Christi. It is known for fried and greasy food. Go out and smell the air in this city. When you don't smell the clogged sewers you smell the stench of cooking grease. Look at the people in Corpus Christi. Even the description fat a** does not come close to the people here. They need to ride around in scooters at the stores because they are so fat. It is disgusting! Take a look at many of the fast food places and you can see grease stains near the entry and exit points and near the drive-up windows. Gross? You bet! True? Yes it is.
People would think that I was lying, but I promise each of you that I was sitting in a buffet and actually witnessed two huge people so fat that they obviously couldn't walk or even propel themselves along being wheeled in to eat. It gave a whole new meaning to "saddle bags" and "side cars". OK, forgive me, perhaps it was a "glandular problem", but judging by the stuff that was piled, mile-high on each of their numerous plates I would have to suppose that these were people healthy enough to "lift weights".

I would guess that anytime that you take cheese, roll it in corn meal that has been mixed with half a pound of beef or hog fat ("lard") and deep fry it, there is more that will be "going south" besides your choice in food.

Confuscious say: "....always remember, international diners: Athens is NOT the "capitol of Grease".". but I say, "girl who eat too greasy meats, take up two seats.".

I love to eat at Rositas until they got closed down. However, Kiko's is really good. Probably the best on the planet. After you are done, catch the late night buffet at the Palace. They have great fish!

YES. MAMA MIAS IS LOUD. I MEAN LOUD. YOU CAN'T EVEN ENJOY THE MEAL. THE PRICES ARE OUTRAGEOUS. LAST TIME I ORDERED THE FETTUCINI WITH SHRIMP, CRAB AND SCALLOPS AND THE NOODLES WERE UNDERCOOKED. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE WAIT STAFF THEY COULD CARE LESS. THE SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE AND THE THE WAITER SCOWLED WHEN I WOULD NOT GIVE HIM 30 PERCENT TIP FOR CRAP FOR SERVICE. THE WAIT WAS 45 MINUTES FOR A TABLE AND THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE WAS AWFUL. DEFINITELY OVERRATED. AND THE CLIENTELE. EVERY GREASY POLITICIAN AND LAWYER IN TOWN WHO ARE ALL VYING TO LOOK IMPORTANT. DEFINITELY NOT ENJOYABLE. LUCIANOS IS THE BEST.

I do like Mama Mia's, their food is the most authentic Italian in town. But Johnny Carino's though a chain, has some interesting dishes.
But overall, the local restaurants are nothing much to speak of. Sadly enough, since I moved, the place I miss the most to eat at is Sonic! Love those strawberry lemonade sluches.

Toni,

From time to time the Corpus Christi Topix discussions are overwhelmed by impossibly positive posts from people in another city.

So "Toni," Just how much does the City of Corpus Christi pay you to do all of these posts. Do you work by the day, hour or per post?

The last time this happened it was some fellow working for or under contract to the city's chamber of commerce. I think he was touting how great the city was with the WiFi network run by Earthlink and how Corpus Christi was the most digital city in the United States. As I think everyone recalls, Corpus Christi is no longer listed on the most digital cities at all and Earthlink dropped Corpus Christi and their WiFi systems like a hot potato.

OK PR Firm For Hire, you have to say the same thing on every spot I posted? I get it. My opinion is not wanted . You only want people with negative things to say about the city on these boards. Let's make the world think that Corpus is the worst place in the world to be. I get it. My question is, why are you so against the city? If you hate it, move!

you must have racked up on frequent flyer miles because it appears you have neen everywhere. and pr firm for hire has a damn good reason to post that same summary in all your posts because you are a suspect.

Does anyone know why Jefe closed? It replaces that place that was closed for tax problems Rosarita's. They were open a few months then they closed too. Must be a bad time for business in Corpus Christi. Things were bad here even in good times and not it is bad in the worst times to get even worse.

Newcomer-here are some places to try: Sultan Mediterranean is pretty good on South Staples. We didn't get the best service when we tried Aladdan's. There is a great italian place in Port A called Venetian Hot Plate but it's pricey. Sushi is good at AKA either on Everhart or downtown. There is quite a bit of diversity ethinically but you have to look for it. THere are a lot of Mexican restaraunts and most of them (including Kiko's) are okay only. La Playa on SPID on the south side has good food and good service. Good luck...and remember, not everyone in Corpus Christi walks around with a chip on their shoulder. Just the ignorants ones.

If you want a fantastic meal go to the Astor on Leopard. I know it is not on the south side so it can't be good , but for once put your prejudices on hold and try something different .their steaks are to die for and the green goddess dressing is wonderful.and for mexican I suggest enriques on kostoryz
Um... wow. You must not get out much. The Astor is BEYOND horrible. Though I understand that in its day... it was much better. Our waitress made constant excuses for the food AND the service... not to mention unloading a HOST of personal problems as proof that things were just 'not going her way' that night. I knew we were in for a questionable evening when the hostess served us the "award-winning" croutons and dip at the beginning of the meal... a gelatinous muck made from what I assumed was fat free unflavored yogurt with green flecks in it. Apparently the green flacks were ALSO unflavored. HIDEOUS.

Unfortunately... iconic dinosaurs like the Astor don't always live up to the reputation of yesteryear... and this legendary Corpus eatery is a sad example of what happens when cutting corners becomes a survival tool. Close the doors and call it a night... for good.
