Full story: The Reporter

Solano County's historic - and long vacant - courthouse in downtown Fairfield moved another step closer to restoration this week with the selection of the architectural firm of Hornberger and Worstell for restoration of the pillared courthouse structure, according to the state Administrative Office of the Courts.

Spare no expense to aggrandize the law industry, especially in California. I would rather see this than lower taxes, any day. It would be reasonable if they took the money from the Worker's Compensation and/or court appointed attorney slush funds to pay for this project. However, even if they did this, it wouldn't be hard to pull some bookkeeping monkey business and take it from the "General Fund".

It's a shame they couldn't insure this dump to the max and then have an unfortunate fire. There's still time.

"This project is not only critically needed by our court, but it also will be an important addition to Fairfield's civic community and an infrastructure effort that will provide economic benefits for years to come," said Presiding Solano County Superior Court Judge Ramona Garrett.

Exactly how can an empty, run down old building be so important? What economic benefits come from spending a sh@t load of money to fix it up? Do tell, Judge Lady!

jackelbon beat me to it but yes, please explain how "This project...will be an important addition...and an infrastructure effort that will provide economic benefits for years to come."

How? By putting construction workers tyo work for Hornberger and Worstell for $27 million? I got an idea in that case. How about building me a new house?

Oh, PLEASE, spare us. The project is NOT "critically needed" and it will NOT be an "important addition to FF's civic community". What a bunch of bleeping bull.

Where the hell is the $$ coming from to pay for this?

I'm guessing the beautiful old building does have some historical significance.
After all, Fairfield is our county seat. I think an investment to preserve its history is money well spent.
And there is a retired (or retiring) jurist who is creating some kind of law museum to be housed there.
