Critics at public meeting blast Rosemont Mine plan

A proposed copper mine in the Santa Rita Mountains took a verbal beating Saturday from residents of Sahuarita , Green Valley, Vail , Tucson, Corona de Tucson and the Highway 83 area.

No it's obtaining copper to make mundane things like copper wire - that is if you use electricity . amazing how much copper goes into constructing a wind farm or solar farm . Then of course you have your fridge, freezer, television and on . Oh I forgot your automobile .

Now for your information - your "almighty" put the mineral deposits where they are so man could harvest the riches of the earth and put them to use to better your quality of life . In reality it all goes back to plate tectonics with attendant uplift. downdrop and good old erosion .

Any large Cu / skarn / porphyry deposit in Canada that is considered to "economically viable " is in production or in the planning stages.

Mining does not destroy mountains . It could be termed an " Altitude Adjustment" whereas perhaps a person of your mindset could do with an Attitude Adjustment.

If the company is a Canadian company, they should mine in Canada. If you think that mining doesn't destroy mopuntains, take a look at the " mountains" on the west side of Green Valley, now sand dunes with sparse replacement greenery. Not knowing what my attitude is or if I am "gringo", your speculating talents fall short.

I live on an old mine, 9000 feet up in the real mountains of CO. Groundwater is fine, the land has recovered, the animal/plant life thriving.

I love the "let 'em mine in Canada" line. I'll bite - I propose a new idea: ALL materials used by Americans must be mined or exracted from the US. Let's see the new mining boom that would start. And this mine could help.

Also you have something against sand dunes ? Great place for 4Wheelers . No don't tell me you are against them .

Hi engineer : Good to hear from you . How's fishing ? Must be a real battle these days with costs of materials for mining . Prices for iron ore and coal appear to have been finally settled at astronomical levels for this year . At $145±/ barrel the price of oil does no one any favors - except the producers and perhaps Gayle if she has gone back to the good ole life style of a hunter-gatherer.

Hope your having a good 4th . Finally had a few drops of rain . all it did was raise the humidity so the 40°C temperatures are a bit sticky. Big gatherings at the river as it had water flowing in ir. Water was from rains in the Sierras .

It seems the only thing that would stop the mining for copper in the Santa Rita's is if they accidentally strike oil. Then it will be shut down faster than you can blink!

Glad to hear that engineer is fishing away on reclaimed mine land. It rains in CO doesn't it? More than in AZ? Could produce a different topography? Don't see us doing too much fishing in the dunes of Green Valley. I think I would like my backyard to remain pristine. Problem with that?

Gayle - unless you live in a mud hut you built yourself, hunt and gather for food, no electricity, no computer, no cell phone... YES, I have a big problem with NIMBYs. You are just as big a part of the problem as the mining companies are... without consumers, there would be no demand, no mines.

I could (and have) lived a life more akin to 100 years ago. No water for 4 months in the winter will teach you how nice life is today. Could you live that way?
