Does anyone have information on a fatal car accident on Temescal Cyn. around 12.30 AM on Thursday morning? It involved a drunk driver slamming head on and killing a young girl. I can't believe the PE hasn't had anything on this! Why? Please help us learn about our friend who lost her young life due to the negligence of a stupid drunk.

Nope sorry. My friends and family lost someone close to us on the next day though, on the 15 freeway about 1:45am coming back from Pechanga. It was similar to your story so thats what drew me to read your post. It was alcohol related and the car she was in flipped upside down. She was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was Ana Erica Garcia and she was a Centennial 2001 graduate and was 24 years old. I feel your pain and my heart goes out to you and your friends.

I have been wondering what happened too. I have been searching all over the papers and have not found much of anything. But, today I went to the PE Obits and she is listed under Rachel Amaris Elliot for todays date. How sad that something so tragic can happen so close to home, and no one has any information, escpecially if it was a drunk driver.

The name of the girl that hit her was Elva Diaz age 29. She was driving a Chevy Tahoe and swerved into oncoming traffic, the impact flipped the Tahoe but she (Diaz) only suffered minor injuries.

If this is the same accident - the young woman killed is Rachel Elliott, a talented 18 year old from Orland, CA.

Her name is Rachel Elliott and she was attending college in the area of the accident. Her mother, father, and brother reside in Orland, CA and she is and will always be a very talented, beautiful, and very much loved 18 year old that will be greatly missed.

I live right where the accident occured. I am still haunted by the impact of the cars colliding that night. There was a small article in the Riverside Press Enterprise, but here is a better one. That poor little girl! Rachel's car was destroyed so bad, you could hardly tell it was even a car. Poor baby! The street in Corona (wildrose ranch area) is called Knabe. I have lived here 12 years and have seen many fatalities on this road but Rachel's accident was more violent by far. I have been contacting the district supervisor in Riverside regarding our dangerous road, something needs to be done!

Orland teen killed in head-on crash in Southern California

CORONA A young woman who graduated with honors last year from Orland High School died in a head-on crash early Thursday morning in Riverside County.
The California Highway Patrol said Rachel A. Elliott, 19, was driving on a residential street in an unincorporated area of Corona, about 40 miles southeast of Los Angeles, when a woman driving a Chevrolet Tahoe in the opposite direction crossed the centerline and struck Elliott's Honda Accord.

The collision was reported at 12:39 a.m.

Elliott suffered major head injuries, according to a CHP report, and died at a local hospital at about 3:30 a.m.

The Tahoe rolled over during the crash, but the driver, identified as Elva Diaz, 29, suffered only minor injuries.

The CHP said both women were wearing seat belts.

Diaz was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and manslaughter, then booked into the Riverside County Jail.

Rachel is the daughter of Steve and Jill Elliott of Orland. They reportedly flew to Riverside Thursday to take care of arrangements.

Relatives said Rachel had been attending UC Irvine, but was in the process of transferring to a college in Riverside County.

Orland High School employee Dera Miller, who said her daughter is one of Rachel's best friends, was working a phone tree Thursday to make sure teachers and administrators were aware of the tragic incident.

She said the school, which is on a break this week, wants to be ready to deal with distraught

students when they return on Monday.
"Rachel was an adorable girl," Miller said. "She was a senior class officer and was involved in everything. She kind of ran the school," Miller said.

Elliott's aunt, Orland resident Leighann Byerly, said it's believed Rachel was driving back to her aunt's house in Irvine after visiting a friend when the crash occurred.

She described her niece as a very smart, ambitious and capable young woman, with many friends.

She said Rachel was interested in the law, and hoped to become a crime scene investigator

She said the Elliotts moved to Orland from Riverside County in 2003.

I don't know why it posted I am from La Puente, but I am from Corona where the accident happened.

Please relay to the family that my husband and I watched from our backyard once we heard the horrible collision, we live up on a hill, and as others approached the accident in their cars there were many good samaritans with so much care and concern for Rachel. There were people everywhere wanting to help!

I have thought about Rachel every day since it happened and have a horrible time sleeping at night. I see the memorial on the street each and every day.

We all LOVE her and feel like we know her. We are so sorry this happened to this beautiful little girl. She is, and always will, remain in our hearts forever!

I worked with Rachel at Mimi's Cafe in Tustin. She was amazing and we used to talk a lot about school because I am planning on attending UCI next year to study criminology and work as a forensic scientist like she planned. She recently started attending IVC (Irvine Valley College). She was loved at work, even for those that did not get to talk to her that much. Her memorial service was Tuesday February 26, 2008 at Crossroads church in Corona. There is a video slideshow on Youtube if you would like to watch.(Search "Rachel A. Elliott Memorial")

I am Rachel's uncle (her mom's brother). My sister Lindsay and I (along with Rachel's grandparents and friends) were so happy to have her back done with us from up north. One of our biggest fears was for something bad to happen to her. We were always worried about her because her mom was in an accident at the same age, hit by a drunk driver just to have both of her friends die in her arms. Also, Rachel's father Steve lost his younger sister at 18 in an auto accident. Obviously our worries became our worst nightmare less than two weeks ago. Not sure what else to say, but we are all so very upset, depressed and miss our little Rachel. Thanks for listening.~Lando

Dear Lando - Thank you for sharing your story, and Rachel's myspace and memorial with us. What a wonderful thing to do! Our community, where the accident happened, will NEVER forget beautiful Rachel.

Rachel was lucky to have such a wonderful caring uncle/family, and so many friends. Please stay strong and take each day a day at a time. You are all so brave!

I too live in the neighborhood where this horrific accident occurred. I am so sorry to hear that the life of a wonderful young woman was taken by a drunken imbecile who did not care for anyone else. While I doubt that she cares about what she has done while she is alive, when she dies she will have all eternity to face up to her misdeeds.

I am positive the drunk driver was on her way home that night and lives in our neighborhood somewhere. Her name was announced in the paper so I am sure she is already paying for it! There was a huge sign posted where Rachel was killed that said her name and that she was killed by a drunk driver. Now the sign is down. Either she or her family members probably removed it. She will pay the price. There is a reason why the drunk drivers always live. She will pay for her mistake.

Though it has been many years, my heart and prayers go out to you Lando, Lindsay and your family. I remembered the story you told of Jill and knew the amount of love and protection your family had regarding those children. I remember the pictures you had of them in the office and the excitement you always showed when they were coming to visit. I am so sorry Lando. As a Mother now myself, I can only imagine your families pain. Rachel knew she was loved. Your eyes showed that love every time you spoke of her. My heart goes out to you, my friend.
