With all of the hoopla about the Presidential Campaign, City Council races are often decided by the name recognition of an incumbent, or maybe just how pretty the candidates signs are. It is important not to lose perspective on Corona’s local race or how it will impact our community. With Jeff Miller off to State Senate (Congrats Jeff!) it leaves us with one incumbent, one open spot and a decision that will affect how your City will run. There are 5 candidates running, but only 3 that are “really” running.
Baxter Miller, Steve Nolan and Jason Scott. Steve is the incumbent, Mayor Pro Tem and resident shoe-in (even with past legal problems that no one seems to remember - Google him to find out). Baxter was the guy who keeps making failed attempts at getting elected at something, but it giving it at least a 75% effort this time and Jason who seems to be the favorite, but should be the candidate to look at.
The candidates often want us to look at issues like traffic, but our City Council can do very little about it…(go Jeff go), so take a look at what really matters: Redevelopment of Downtown, Wards, maintenance issues, who is business friendly, who does the city like (Jason and Steve is the answer to that – look at endorsements), etc…
Really, I just want the citizens of Corona to really take a look. This is just a volunteer position, but there is a reason that businesses are throwing 6 figures at these guys to get them elected, they matter to the city and they will help you get things done (or not!). My suggestion is go to a forum, visit a candidates website, ask someone in the know, but find out what is going on.

Hello,
I am an active candidate in this year's Corona City Council election. My name is Tia Magee. I am not endorsed by anyone (BY CHOICE) except for many of Corona's citizens. It may seem as though I am not running due to I have no pricey large billboards posted all around town. However, I am running my campaign on a conservative note. Please take a look at my web site and consider voting for someone who truly cares about our community. "ME"
My site contains some of the issues Corona faces as well as some possible solutions.
Thank You,
Tia

4 spots...5 candidates is it?

Sounds like a game of musical chairs. While Tia is at the top of my list, that still leaves a couple candidates that would spend city money like Paris Hilton in Beverly Hills with an Amex card.

I've decided to opt out who I think the biggest snake of the bunch would be and hope that the conservative members would balance it out or ground them. That snake in my opinion is Nolan.

It is sad that there isn't more fiscally conservative candidates running, ones that are against wealth redistribution schemes like the Council played with giving away down payments for homes that people still can't afford. Should I also mention the failed takeover of the electric grid from Edison, the failed wifi access, and the fiasco of the last "redevelopment" of the downtown area?

Tia, thank you for renewing my faith in the system...we need more people like you. Perhaps next time I should run myself under that same banner...and help take our city back.

Also...could whomever is in the next city council PLEASE look into traffic management systems? Three miles in 20-25 minutes to go across the city is a joke.

"Concerned about Corona From LA" seems to know little about the facts surrounding the Corona election. Start with not knowing where Jeff Miller is headed (Assembly not Senate). Stay in LA and keep your nose out of Corona's business until you know what is truly going on here.

I have only lived in Corona for four years but during that time have come to know Baxter Miller and his family. They are so very involved in the community! I know they were Chamber of Commerce Man and Woman of the Year, and that he is a former president of the Chamber and the Corona Rotary. They are also very involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He is very active in the city and concerned about its future. This previous post claims that Baxter is always running for elected office but I beleive the truth is that he ran for School Board once and that was ten years ago. I have gone to Baxter's Meet and Greets and like what I hear. I guess the Riverside Press Enterprise does too as they have endorsed him, and not Steve Nolan who they say has shown poor judgement about a hit and run accident he had last year and question his ethics.
I would urge you to really look at what Baxter and the other candidates believe in, not just believe everything the Unions say. But, the most important thing of all is to VOTE!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate the time and information given by the previous writers. I have spent much time looking into all the candidates. I find merit in most; however, I am most impressed by the unselfish contribution of Jason Scott. A principal by occupation, but also very involved in helping people in many other ways: Board Member of the Corona-Norco United Way, Board Member of Uniting Neighbors Involving Today's Youth, Board Member Corona Fire Safety Foundation, President of the Friends of the Corona Public Library, Member of the Riverside Superior Court Community Committee, member city's Infrastructure & Economic Development Committee, and Chairman Pro Tem of the Planning Commission. This guy give of his time. His website is JasonScott4Council.com .

As I said, I appreciate the information and points brought out by other writers, but also take a look at Jason Scott too.

Was at the Red Ribbon Festival at Promenade Park today. Meet Jason Scott a candidate for City Council. I had seen his signs and heard good things but never met him. I learned of how active he is in our city and that he is a Principal at Ben Franklin School. He was also a great listener and very approachable. My vote and that of my husband is going to Jason Scott for Corona City Council.

Look I used to know this guy Jaon Scott and he had a serious fetish for young girls. When he was 22 ad already an educator he was euphemistically "dating" a 15 year old girl. At 29 he was still up to his old tricks as i saw him trying to seduce a 14 year old. This is not innuendo this is truth. Ask Margie Deegan or any member of the Deegan family. As an elementary school teacher he used to correspond with his former students. Trouble is they were all girls, and attractive girls at that! THIS IS NOT A LIE. DO SOME RESEARCH!

Are you the same John Singleton that has been stealing my newspaper every morning? That is so inconsiderate of you to do this. I have never done a single thing to your family to deserve this type of treatment. As your neighbor, I am requesting that you put a stop to stealing my daily newspaper. In addition, I can no longer stand to watch you masturbating to horse porn on your laptop. Close your blinds

You're either Jason himself, capital nitwit or one of his flunkies. One thing for sure is that you're a loser. I suspect you're a pervert too. If Corona wants to put a guy like Scott on their City Council the whole community loses. These aren't false charges. This is truth. I've given names.

Dear John Singleton,
I,too, have provided names in my post. The only problem is that it was your name. I'm sorry that the Topix.com community knows about your fondness for horse porn. I wanted to come over to your house the other day to shake your hand and apologize. Unfortunately, before I left my house to cross the street, I noticed that you were maturbating to horse porn again. I decided that it would be an awkward confrontation seeing as how you were climaxing during the rodeo scene.

Regards,

Get the facts or shut your trap... Words to not spread lies by!

Council giving away money for houses: Well, let's see, all cities are required to help low-income families establish home ownership opportunities. Not to mention, these people the Council are helping must still qualify for a loan with a real bank, with real rules and real underwriting. I would guess, based on the current lending climate, these people will be qualifed more than most and likely more than this posting idiot. Corona is doing that with this program it would seem. A+ Corona City Council

Council trying to take SCE grid. I guess if you lived in my neighborhood where the electricity is off almost as much as it's on AND the price of energy is beyond belief, you would say GO CORONA GO! A+ Corona City Council for trying to do something for me and other "Joe the Plummer" plummer types just tyring to make it.

The last redevelopment of downtown he says... What a dork. This happend when most of these Council members were still in grade school. Again, perhaps he's confused, new to the community or simply wanting to bash Mr. Nolan? Get it right before you cast stones or shut the hell up!

Failed Wi-Fi the genius states... Well, let's see, that failed all over the United States becuase most of the providers went out of business. Hum, perhaps a little research would be good before hitting the current Council? Any money lost? No. Any negative impact to the community? No. Corona City Council: A

Bottom line, this person is a Tia Magee follower and clueless just like her. Before you step into a role of leadership you owe it to community to be informed, educated and able to understand complicated concepts of local government. To that end, both this poting-monkey and Tia fail. Folks, we all live in Corona and want only the best, to that end Steve Nolan is a clear choice for forward progress and a no-nonsense approach to straigh-talk that is very rare in contemporary politics. Go Corona City Council and Steve Nolan.

To other citizens of Corona. I urge you to Vote for Jason Scott and Steve Nolan for city counsel. They have the types of backgrounds that will compliment one another on the city counsel. Nolan is a business owner with a public safety background and 4 years on counsel. Scott is a career educator that has surrounded himself in community involvement. The too men will compliment each other and the rest of the current counsel because one has the experience we can trust and the other has put the had work in to prove why his new ideas should be listen to. I will say that no matter what happens on the 4th, I do believe the city of corona will be in good hands; we would just be better off if Jason Scott and Steve Nolan are elected.
