I am new to this area. I am looking for a church to attend..........
Also, are there any good counseling centers where a person may want to volunteer?

Good luck being accepted here unless you either grew up here or have family ties here.

We are not from here. We moved here a few years ago. We have visited several churches of different denominations here. Like most other places in town we have been warmly greetd and accepted by the majority. The only problem here are the few that are miserable and unhappy and want others to be that way too by being negative.

Are all the area churches Christian? Or are people of different faiths welcome here?

We have Christian, Baptist, Lutheran (spelled wrong), Methadist (also spelled wrong). My grandma goes to First Christian Church. It's a great church the only problem is they are lacking in young people. There are a few young adults and small kids but mostly it's elderly woman. They are a very small congregation who will welcome ANYONE and make everyone feel at home there. They are very nice people. I grew up going to that church but after my late Grandma (a different one) moved to Jonesboro I quit going. I still go occasionally and they all welcome me with open arms.

Thank you for responding, but you only mentioned Christian churches. Are there any churches in the area for the people of OTHER faiths? Just curious.

There are a few ethnic and religous minorities here. Especially in the restaurant field. I do not hear on any major issues or discrimination.

Hickoria Missionary Baptist Church is a great place to come. It is very small, but great. The people love each other and God.

Are you looking for a temple or a mosque? I'm not aware of any temples or mosques closer than Jonesboro unfortunately.

There is indeed a Catholic church in Corning and a larger Catholic congregation in Pocahontas. We Catholics, however, are christians.

Ok....well I have seen the junk on here before and have chose not to even respond, but since the same people like bringing it up...I think it is time to respond. There seems to be several people on here that love to run down the church I attend (Big T Apostolic Church) I am going to say that you could never be more wrong, and I will try to clarify a few things that have been said on here before. First of all yes I am the pastors oldest son.
1. Yes I pay tithes, which is 10% of my income. That is merely obeying the scripture.
2. The tithing is given to the pastor, the offering to the church. The pastor is not on any kind of salary so guess what...you don't make as much money...he don't make as much money. And he has NEVER asked to see someones tax return papers.
3. The pastor is not worshiped, but he is honored and held very highly among the members.
4. His vehicles are older than 80% of the other members vehicles.
5. His daughter was married and then divorced, she lives in the mobile home close to his, it is not a place to keep snakes (trust me that is one of the last things you would ever catch the pastor handling)
6. For those that have decided to attack me and my wife, when she was 8 both of her parents died of a horrible accident and their life insurance money was put up for her. When we got married she was given $100,000 (not a million) and we now own our own home and two automobiles and have used the money to help us raise our own family.
7. Yes I used to run Jordon's shoes, and when I decided that I could not make enough money to pay bills, I let them take back over, it was not taken from me. And when the computer that had been there even before I was running it had problems and was taken to be fixed, somewhere in tempory files there must have included a pornographic image. If I was trying to hide porn....I could have done a better job.
8. Our church believes in worship, we might worship differently than you. We leap for joy, we run the isles and we dance in the spirit. That is our way or expressing our joy.
9. We believe in the infilling of the Holy Ghost which includes speaking in tongues as in the book of Acts
10. The people of the congregation are the hardest working and the funnest people you will ever meet. After the church burned to the ground and only $30,000 worth of insurance on it, the people began raising money and we built a new church 4200 sq. ft. And don't owe anything on it! Then a few months ago we decided to build a fellowship hall 2400 sq.ft. Owing nothing, our people raised all the money to do it! You don't find that kind of determination very often.
If you decided to keep trying to tear down the church that is your business, and you will be the one who looses. If you really want to know about us, please visit us once and see for your self.
That is all I have to say and I think if you really have something to say and you TRULY believe what you are saying is true then put your name on here, so the rest of the people on here will see what kind of people are saying the stuff!

I really want to know where the people of other faiths gather in the area. Where are the gatherings held for the people of Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and Wiccan faiths? Is this really a mono-religious community?
