Lets start of discussion on ways to clean up Corning and make it look better. Might come up with so ideas that someone might use.
We have to try to make Corning look better than it does now.

To all the landlords in this town, when you collect your rent try to help maintain the house instead of your own pocket book. There are a lot of houses in this town that people rent and you can tell which ones they are. If a house needs a paint job, then do it. Let's try to clean this town up. Help a tenant maintain the outside as well as the inside. Work together on a project such as have a yard cleaning day with your tenants. This is just a suggestion.

Looks like the city could make sure all the ditches around town are mowed. I know the highway department mows 67 twice a year, but why couldn't the city mow it more often. Most of the time all across the front of wal-mart is growed up. For that mater wal-mart could see that the ditch in front of them got mowed.

OK lets take this a bit further.....how many folks are out of work yet have too much time on their hands and short on funds?
With esculating cost of living prices growing daily and incoming funds dropping in city reserves, where is a balance found?
There is none!
which of the city business` have put a cap on thier wares? None!
or anywhere else in the country for that matter.......
Ok......so we dont want to live in a village that looks like a garbage dump .... many are disabled true, but many are just damn right lazy, and many have just not thought of a way to improve
the situation...how much more gas would it take to mow that part of ditch in front of your house, instead of spending energy whining and waiting for somebody else to come along and rejuvenate the beauty of your city? and restore pride in your self and environment?

What about people have to pay a fine if they don't get out all the trash, old motorcycles, washing machines, Ect, Ect out of their yard. They need a 30 day notice first. The same goes for old abandon trailers. Who ever owns the lot is responsible.

I just thought of something else. What about having a clean Corning day once year. Like some of the other towns do. They have a big dumpster somewhere and people drop off all their junk. Free of charge. I think this will help a lot.

I know for a fact the city of Reyno has trash pickup at least twice a year and you can put anything out by the street and the city will pick it up for free. Most of the stuff gets picked up by scrap dealers before the city has to pick it up. It gives people the opportunity to get rid of old appliances that do not work.

What about in front of the old fry building, doesn't Blue Riggan own that. It is all growed up in front of it and the windows are broken out. You would think he would have more pride. What about that little shopping center across from the John Deer place, doesn't Ida Huett own that, you would think she would have more pride. Both those places are eye sores.

How about Corning pick up plastic bottles and cans on trash day and place them in separate bags. This could then be sent to recycling centers and Corning could have some extra revenue coming in. Over a year no telling how much.
Also people of Corning should have the fortitude to not throw trash out of their cars. Have more civic pride

Sad to see how Corning looks now. It has never been a "pretty" town, but it looks like a dump now.

Empty buildings that look as if they are falling down, grass growing up in the parking lot. The whole town looks like an eye sore.

A little paint, a few crepe myrtles (hey Clay County Electric you could plant a few in front of your equipment fence and it would improve the looks of the area), ordinances enforced about mowing grass and it would make a world of difference in the town.

But it all comes down to your city council and mayor, if they don't give a rat's butt, it won't happen. Until people start voting people in who actually care about the town instead of their personal interests, things will continue to go down hill.

What about the woods house out on the highway, they trimmed those trees and the branches have laid in the yard all summer. They just mowed around them. Looks like they would have picked them up. Another example of no pride in ones place.

Maybe we'll get that huge guy, Mark, to pick those limbs up. I am sure he will find time before they open the new donut shop. After it opens, he will be there a LOT!

I've traveled quite a bit and some of the "prettiest" towns I've seen have been in the North east.

Upper state New York has some beautiful small towns. Brick streets, brick buildings were painted to look fresh and new, sidewalks were in good shape, they would have lamp posts about every 50 yards with flower pots hanging on them and banners with the city's colors.

When you drive through a place like that, you think I would like to live in a town like this.

But driving through Corning, you see weeds, grasses, sidewalks buckled or you can't see them for the dirt, some of the store windows are so dirty it looks as if they have not been cleaned in 20 years (which is probably accurate).

No business owner would want to move to Corning and start a business in a town that looks this way. Their thoughts will be if the people of the town don't care how it looks, they are not the type of employees I want. You may think I'm joking but I've done work with businesses that look for a town to start operations in. Appearances are everything, they would not want to move their employees to a place that looks like a trash dump.

I constantly see moaning about no work, it starts with you, MAKE the city council and mayor get off their duffs and do something to improve the town.
