Yeah, True! I frequent that WalMart quite a bit too. I'm not from this state but my personal observation from the "Denver Area" Great for raising a family, plenty of activities, sports funtions, and what nots. As far as a social scene I think Denver is lacking. I think the Denver area is a little backwoods as well but I guess that depends on which side of Denver you live on. For the most part my time here has been ok, would prefer to live in Charlotte if I was single (no kids), but this is a great area and great schools for raising young'ens. Leaving soon and going back to my home state. You can take the girl out of the North, but you cant' take the North out of the girl.

Denver is mainly residential. If you think Denver is boring now, you should have seen it 10 years ago. We have gotten a lot more businesses built here in the last 3-5 years. Most of these businesses are located off of hwy 73 near the hwy 16 intersection. It will be interesting to see how they manage during the recession. I have seen two separate brand new shopping strip malls that have yet to get a single tenant. Before the new businesses were built, most people traveled to Huntersville or Mooresville for just about everything.

Denver is not incorporated. Locals have tried for years to incorporate the area, but have been unsuccesful so far. All services are county provided.

Lincoln county, is still mostly rural. The only incorporated city in the county is Lincolnton, which is in central Lincoln county.

Most of the growth is located in the eastern part of Lincoln, known as Denver. This is also where most of the population lives as well. once you venture west past East Lincoln HS, it becomes farms.

Lake Norman is basically what has kept the growth coming and is the major "attraction" during the summer months.

Eastern Lincoln county has seen a flood of newcomers in the past 5 years or so, many from up north. Most landed jobs in Charlotte and wanted to live near the lake.

What type of evidence do you have to prove this theory? Enquiring minds want to know.

Basically, people do not come to Denver for entertainment. Lake Norman is the only reason people would come here for fun. There are a few bars though, if that is your idea for fun.

The other thing would be Camp Meeting every August which is off of Camp Ground Road from Hwy 16.

Growth in Denver has slowed dramatically over the past year.

I've lived in Las Vegas, Chicago, L.A., and Denver. I hate Denver with a vengence. It's filled with the same cookie-cutter, boring people. VANILLA! There is no nightlife, no culture; shopping is horribly limited, sky high car insurance and vehicle registration prices, land locked, ugly snow, cold ugly weather. It's a great place to live if you want to be married with children - YUCK!
If you're single this city is so so so painful. The people here are ugly and into the "natural" thing.
The girls here, especially in clubs, are terribly threatened towards someone flamboyant who actually likes to dress up when going out. Excuse me for not wanting to LIVE in blue jeans and shave my armpits.
The radio stations here! OMG! Please someone hand me a shotgun to end the misery! Crap, crap, crap.
Want an active social life and date your little ass off? Move to Vegas, but that's another blog; as I have a love hate relationship with that city.
Denver, you are a lame, banal cow-town! Good riddance!

Any city is what you make of it. If you're high maitenance and have to have constant attention and be entertained, then you won't like this area much. If you appreciate nature and are content without having to spend a lot of money and keep up with the Joneses, you can make this area just as fun as any place else in the world. You have to be creative and put on or take off the beer goggles to see the beauty in this area. I've lived here for 10+ years and I think it's just as fun as any of the bigger metroplises i've lived in.

If you call living in a gorgeous 5700 sq ft home by the lake w/boat ramps rampant and a local marina boring, then you have to question your sense of excitement. True, shopping is limited and there is NO STARBUCKS - TRAVISTY - but the cost of living, quality of lifestyle and friendly people make it quite charming. In fact, the joke's on the LKN and Mooresville crowds. They're paying the exorbitant taxes while we're not and only 15 minutes away from enjoying everything that those towns have to offer, including very nice shopping and dining. Devner: it's a well kept secret and we LIKE it that way.

sure, if you own a 5700 sq ft home by a lake then denver is a fun place. otherwise, eh, not so much.

don't know what else to say other than if you're looking for the fun of a big city - eating out at random places, bar-hopping, and discovering new things on a daily basis, you're in the wrong city. if your idea of thrills is working on your ski moves, watching some football, and then having a beer with pals at your favorite bar, then i can see it being a thrill.

We're talking about the fake Denver, the one in North Carolina.

And yes, it's boring as hell. I pass through on the way to Charlotte and don't bother stopping.
