Downing Clark Center has not changed a bit since the riot. They continue to run shifts below ratio and incident (on a much smaller scale) are still occuring. Cindy Downing is still crazy and treats employees terribly. Cindy Downing makes false promises to youth all of the time. The best thing that could happen to this place is Cindy Downing stepping down as CEO.

That is so true..staff members are treated unfair, and the girls needs are not met.
the staff do work out of ratio and arent paid for working overtime, when they are called in for others.
the youth continue to act out due to the way they are treated. they were promised phone calls to their caseworkers and families the night of the riot by Cindy herself(although she never intended on making them)and never recieved them.

if this place is going to be successful, a lot of changes need to be made, and the staff need to be treated better or they will continue to lose their strong staff members.

I want to know more about this place. Are the girls there really getting the help they need? Are the staff good people? And whats the deal with Cindy Downing? Most of you say she's awful, is it true?

Alan - I'm entering through a blog and responding to the email you posted on the internet urging an underage girl to contact you. That's a potentially dangerous request and inappropriate. Every responsible adult knows you do not want to make it a comfortable practice for minors to contact strangers through blogs - just because they requested them to - no matter what their title may be. Some people may know who you are, but what if you weren't being honest - as so many people aren't in this venue. I welcome you to contact me directly. I can help fill in many of the questions you may have.

As bad as I want to say I agree with every comment posted, I don't. Downing Clark was a facility for girls with behavioral issues, and a home for many. I am a resident here currently, and I will be until my last 30 days here are up. During my year here, I have met some pretty amazing people, I got close with them, and I slowly started to heal. To me, at first, Downing Clark was my only other option to getting my life back on track, slowly but surely. I'm willing to understand everyone's point of view on this situation, but I want to make sure that who ever else reads this hears my voice, and whoever feels the same way.
The riot was a horrible and unfortunate incident, but at first, this place kept going and pushing through, and I'm proud to say that I was apart of that experience. Many people think Cindy is a horrible person, but I encourage everyone to try to relate to where she and Kelly are coming from as well. Ever since this place opened in 2004, Cindy and Kelly have poured their heart in this place. Many people recognize their efforts, and they are very much appreciated. Yes, they have made mistakes along the way, but what human trying to run a facility with 50 something girls at a time doesn't? Before you get online and decide to demean Cindy, put yourself in her shoes, and I'd like to see for one day you try to put on your shoulders what she has on hers. She never broke, and she still hasn't yet. So I have to disagree, that makes her perfect for this job.
From the things and comparisons that I have experienced for the year that I have been here, I think there is someone more at blame than anyone here. Cindy and Kelly hired a man named Mr. Joseph to "run" the things around here, and when that decision was made, everything went downhill from there. I can't say myself that I have never blamed Cindy or Kelly for what is going on, but me having to be here for the next 30 days watching the girls here leave one by one, is a very depressing experience. I think that this has kind of opened my eyes a little bit, and I believe that Downing Clark was to us what we wanted to make it, and nothing different. I am going to appreciate that the fact when this place was going downhill, Cindy nor Kelly never gave up. Things were actually getting better for a lot of the girls here, and a number of us here now strongly disagree with whats happening. I don't think that whatever anyone ever wants to tell me about this place and the "evil Cindy", I can never look at it the same way that the people that decided to get on here and bash on Cindy or anyone else for the matter. All the comments are plain insecurity, and I wish whoever decided to write anything, might try to put their selves in our position right now. I hope you guys find happiness in what you wrote, "voicing that opinion of yours eh?"
Well here I am, voicing OUR opinions, knowing that this means nothing but feeling the need to do so anyway.
=] for the people that wrote that about Mrs. Melinda, just remember, that your unemployed right now and she is still here, so uh boost of ego for ya?

Mr. Joseph stop calling us crying about you and your fiance getting laid off from Downing Clark. The day before you and yours got laid off you bragged openly about how good you had it at Downing Clark. You did not do your job, you were afraid of the girls so get over it! You are embarrassing yourself much like you did at work every day!

This place is a safe secure place for girls who have been done so wrong in life.It is a shame that some people who don't do the work complain of the center cause they get fired grow up.Ms.downing is a straight up smart lady who is great at what she does and some little people with small minds can't handle it.for all that don't know her she is a good person to the people who bash her what can I say FIND A JOB YOUR TAXES WILL RUN OUT SOON OR ARE THEY GONE.

I realize that Calhoun is a small town however, this article is titled:"BREAKING NEWS"? You must be kidding, breaking news is the disaster in Hati, breaking news is losing American lives in Afghanistan, this is not breaking news. What happened at Downing Clark is not different from any other facility that lends services to children with emotional and behavioral disorders. It is so easy to pass judgement on those whose shoes you have not walked in. There have been a lot of success stories regarding the girls there, but that is not "news worthy" is it? These postings sound like a bunch of disgruntled employees. Rather we should read the words of the young ladies that are still there, they do not sound like they have been abused. If these young ladies were being maltreated the state would have closed this facility long ago.The criteria to operate a facility such as this has to adhere to the strictest of state and, governmental guidelines. I personally have visited this facility, and I would trust my child there. Let's not be so quick to throw stones and condemn. We should pray that these young ladies will find healing, and pray for those who have the difficult task of helping them. Amen.

I stii work at DCC and am proud of it! It is a shame when our girls represent themselves in a more mature way than previous employees. It makes me feel better about our leadership that they stuck their necks out and terminated the cancer from our organization! Mr. Joseph I cannot find anyone who is not happy that you no longer work here. How ethical was it to hire your fiance and do her job for her? You didn't get your way so now someone, I guess Ms. Downing must psy??? Go Ms. Downing and make us proud. Mr. Joseph do you have what it takes to develop a treatment program or do you just make a living trying to tear down those who dare......

I pray for those who hate. Spewing hate is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. Hate is a cancer. It will destroy you in the end. I don't know about you but I believe we will ALL be held accountable for how we treated each other. I pray for those who defame and liable the character of others. Hold a mirror up to yourself. Are YOU really really hollier than thou? Do you consider yourself a christain? I am sickened by what I read that supposed "care givers" have written about others. Wounded healers?

If you were terminated, why? And why haven't you been able to go forward with your life? Why do you hang on and ridicule others who are trying their best to help girls? If you are not here does helping stop? To hear you tell it YOU are the only one capable of helping others? But what does your hate mail say about your emotional stability? When YOU were terminated helpng reach our mission did NOT stop. WE are carrying on DESPITE YOU. I agree that in the end justice will prevail. YOU will be seen for what YOU are...a very disgruntled emotionally fragile ex-employee. I will pray for you and ask that you pray for us too. This has become really nasty and personal. I hope the leaders of our organization seek legal help in holding YOU accountable what YOU WRITE.

Kelli Clark is in trouble becuase she is not wanting to pay the teachers when the Gordon County Schools System sent the money for the teachers to be paid. I hear thee Superintendent of Gordon County Schools is not very happy. The teachers are in the process of getting a lawyer, this is Misappropriation of public funds. The last four girls are leaving soon and the doors will be locked.

That is a lie..the teachers are paid through and by the state just like all GA teachers are. DC has nothing to do with the teachers paychecks. You have no idea what you are talking about. We know you are not teacher because you cant spell or use commas correctly.

I love working at DCC. There never ever was a boring day. You past employees were obviously not there for the right reasons.Your problems should have been left at the gate. Its a treatment facility for the girls not the staff !!! I wish all you young ladies the best of luck, you girls have been through so much the past two months. GOOD LUCK!!!

Also its obvious some of you need to grow up.. Calling Melinda a fat ass !!! Hmmmmm sounds a bit third grade to me!!! We all are going to be umemployeed when the last girl leaves...
