I agree that liqour can create bad things when over used, but it is one persons choice .I guess the churches do not want new jobs created, taxes collected, better restaurants like t.g.i.f.,or help stimulate corinths economy.maybe the churches will start paying taxes.more and more cities are voting on doing the same election.times are tough and things need to change.

Crime rate, deaths, rapes etc. all increase with liqor . A personal choice? Yes it is...and a wrong choice that will be made easily ....with easy access you are on hurting people , families.....i m guessing you have no children and want no children.,...well why don't you just move to the big city and make yourself happy

Where are the churches on the prescription drug abuse problem? Lortab and other pain pills are a greater menace to society's safety and to family cohesion these days.

Why are churches not going after the pill mill doctors and pharmacies? Why are they not going after big pharma that makes this garbage?

I work with the public, and I see way more issues with pills than liquor. It causes people to lose their kids, causes people to lose their jobs, causes people to go to jail. It causes murder and suicide and break-ins (and maybe rape, though more likely date rape).

And I read in the paper where six years ago United Drys (the church anti-liquor group) spent fifteen thousand dollars against liquor. That money could have saved a lot of families from starving and going without heat or adequate shelter.

I am sure the churches mean well, but they need to mean well somewhere else. Not once did Jesus put up a billboard against wine. He was too busy HELPING the poor, not voting alcohol out of the Holy Land.

As for me, I will be happy to get a few new restaurants if nothing else.

you people should barricade yourselves in the churches and get busy praying. as a matter of fact, you probably shouldn't bother with ever coming out again. the world is changing in ways that are scary to a brain-dead moron. just stay in there. don't vote. don't bitch. just get on your knees and stay there. i'm sure your almighty god will make everything ok. i mean, he does answer prayers, right?

Why do you put "you" in quotations? That makes no sense. And second of all, you have no idea what I do. I help people every single day. I see churches that have a mission statement from God Himself doing foolish things with their money and power. I have a lot less money and power, but I try to do good. I am not perfect.

I just wish both sides would stop the lies! We will not get new restuarants or any new taxes off of it because we didn't before when we had it, And according to my bible you want go to hell for drinking it so vote for it or don't but shut up!

You don't go to hell for drinking you go for being a drunk. I remember several places in the Bible where the people drank wine including Jesus. When it was in Corinth the crime rate was not any worse, they were no more drunk drivers than they are now, it didn't cause rapes or anything else. The problem back then were the lounges.Today we have "restaurants" Which have cover charges, women pole dancing, and the normal drunks leaving trying to make it home.
Today we have events at the arena where they can sell beer like crazy and to the same folks who show up drunk to began with. Our fest have beer tents with the same results. Apparently people can't be entertained unless they are drunk.
A legit restaurants sell by the drink is not bad and yes they are several who are interested putting in if liquor is voted in.Package stores were a good thing back then because people didn't have to drive out of the county to buy alcohol beverages. Remember when beer was illegal? A short drive across the stateline and you had your beer. It being against the law didn't stop anything.
People are buying liquor and will continue to do so. Ever notice Walmart and other stores carring drink mixes? They don't sell them if people do not buy them. Good people drink alcohol too, Vote it out again if you want to because the people in Lee County, Savannah TN, and across the Alabama Stateline will enjoy the tax dollars and jobs created by alcohol just like they are now and the folks who drink will not have a short supply.

This debate never ceases to amaze me. These churches that preach of the sins of liquor while half of their memmbers are adulteres, cheaters, and liars yet never a word is said about those issues. I know of several ministers and "ever so holy" folks that attend these churches and they are the most arrogant and unfriendly people in this town and they want to talk about liquor being a sin?? Let's just put it this way...if liquor was this town's only issue, that meaning, there were no liars, no gossip, no slander, no drug misuse, or favoritism, Corinth would be in far better shape having liquor and none of the other things. But the almighty churches never seem to use their pulpit for these far more damaging issues. All they care about is looking "holy" in front of the other members, jamming themselves into Mi Torro and gorging themselves while praising each other for being so "righteous", then they all head back home and go back to their sinning. Quit your phony preaching about what MAY happen if liquor is voted in and start focussing on the current problems that are already hurting this town in a far worse way. You must not have very much faith in this town if you think everyone will suddenly become drunks and break laws due to liquor. You cannot stop progress because of a few people that might misuse alcohol. I'm sure the people that would misuse it, already get from somewhere else anyway.

ummm.....who's doing the judging? And I must have missed the commandment that says "thou shall not have liquor". And if you were such a devout "born again christian" you wouldn't be sitting on topix.

The children will have to deal with it eventually because when they grow up there will not be any jobs for them in corinth and will have to move to another city where liquor is legal.

Unless of course you're one of their buddies. We all know certain people in this town have special rights over the rest of us.

I'm a Christian and its hypocrites like the big churches around Corinth that cause lost people to hate church and hate people that goes to church!!! I've seen many high up church goers in tunica, sipping on their beer to relax after work and so has many more seen you! I don't drink and I try not to sin as much as I can but we are human! If u don't want liquor then stay at home and don't get out looking stupid by voting against it when others have seen you drink it! Mind your own business and don't get involved. GOD knows the truth no matter who you try to fool on earth. Not scoring any points in heaven. Your not stopping ANYBODY from drinking because as long is its around to get people gonna get it! How many of u fine people feels guilty bout causing people to travel miles to get their booze and hits a family van full of kids head on because they were drunk and couldn't wait before they got home to open it?? Not one of you!! Your just a bunch of dumb hypercritical rich church folks that are gonna be in for s real shock before long!!
