I got a ticket tonite- 75 in a 45. The trooper turned his blue lights on way before I ever passed him, but I noticed there were no brake lights and when I passed him his head lights did not turn on until he pulled out on the hwy to follow me. I heard they can't ticket you unless their lights are on and you can see them sitting there waiting. Is this true?

my understanding is their radar detects from any direction and they dont have to use lights until they are in pursuit

Ok- I've heard before that they can't clock you and legally ticket you if their lights aren't on. I knew it didn't make sense because the whole reason they do it is so they can catch people... But I was really hoping for a way out of this ticket.

1 Question here. What kind of Dumbass would pass a Highway Patrol doing 75 In the First Place? Bwhahahahaha. The highest posted speed limit around here in only 65 mph on the HWY in the first place. That's like Sticking up a Red Flag and Begging for a speeding Ticket!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA You Deserve that ticket!!!!!

I didn't see the trooper because it was dark and he had no head lights on. No need to get smart, Dumbass (:

You wont get out of it. Not at 75mph. I am surprised you dident get a wreckless driving ticket too. I know what you are talking about with the lights, I also heard they HAD to wear the hat when outside the car. None of that is true. He is a Trooper and can pretty much do what they want. If you did the crime, pay the fine!

if you are underage and its your first ticket, you might ask the court for driving school, but at least get the inspection sticker replaced and take proof of it to court, might help some good luck

Sure Sure, That's what they all say, I didn't see him. You were going 75 mph. What did you expect. But then you said you did see him and that he didn't have any brake lights. Now you say you didn't see him. I think you deserve the ticket. If I were a judge I would have a field day with you.

I have been to driving school once before. The first time I got pulled over, I got a ticket. I hear you can go again if it's been over a year? I have no tickets or accidents on my driving record, and everyone says tickets will make your insurance go up a lot.

I never said I saw him? No brake lights no head lights I saw no car sitting off hwy 45 until he turned on his blue lights, which was before I ever passed him. Then, after I went by him he had no head lights on until he pulled out on the high way. It was completely dark outside and he was sitting under the bridge that exits to Purdy school road right before you get to the weigh station. Like I said- no need to get smart and be rude it was only a simple question.

Id say yes... But like you I thought it was illegal for any LEO or anyone to sit in the median at night with no lights on. Simply because of the danger of being hit!
The HP on 45 near Bville sits there all the time with the lights off at night.
Best thing to do is call the HP in New Albany or Jackson and ask! And complain it it is ileagal.
You will be surprised to know a ticket is about 200.00 and some change nowadays.

You are wrong on the hat deal! They are required to wear the hat anytime they step out of the car. But if they dont its not like you can do anything.
And yes you can get out of the ticket if you know someone. Either a HP or someone in the Clerks office. Although if he is like the rest of us we know no one. lol so my guess is get ready to cough up about $200.00 as tickets have skyrocketed.

I was looking at my ticket todAy and realized he wrote the wrong speed limit in the box- he wrote 75 in a 55 instead of in a 65. I got my ticket right before the weigh station on 45 coming from tn. Wonder if this would void the ticket?

Probably not, unless you get a lawyer. If you have to go before a county Judge, there's no way without a lawyer.
