Harper Road Wreck

Well the inevitable finally happened, a student was in a wreck on Harper Road after school yesterday. It didn't look like a major accident, but the sad thing is that it WILL take a major accident before any of the local politicians will take any action on adding a turn lane from CHS to Shiloh Road. Maybe WHEN (not if) this does happen it will only be an injury not a fatality. Shame.

Watching the level of driving skill of the students and parents that are entering and leaving CHS makes me wonder why there hasn't been more wrecks. If you wish to see stupid driving, just go to CHS any morning or evening and watch the lack of driving courtesy and ability to drive within the accepted rules of the driving public.

I suppose CHS is the only one with bad drivers? Is that what you are really saying? So I can go to ACHS, KHS and BHS and see professional drivers? Really?

At least our schools are not on the nightly news and in newspapers all over the state of Mississippi with serious problems and investigations. And it is not like it is the first time the county schools have been in the news. It appears that there is always something going on, much more so than in the Corinth School district.

I do agree with you, they need something, turning lane, 4 way stop, anything would be better than how it is.

It does happen at all schools. Just look at the wrecks that have occurred on 72 at the turn to ACHS and it's not just kids trying to beat the res light. Wrecks have occurred bc others ran that red light!! I think the 4 way at KHS helps them some. Seeing as children and teens are involved, i imagine thats why most school zone have an area that requires drivers to slow down. We all have to drive defensively in this town, especially around the schools!! Most, not all, but a lot of teens are inexperienced drivers that take chances older drivers wouldn't take, and the amount of traffic on Harper accentuates the problem at CHS. I agree that a turn lane or a light would help.

Pull pants up, turn music down, sit straight up in seat (don't lay down on armrest), avoid dark shades just because eyes are bloodshot from a little mary jane.
This won't stop all the wrecks, but it will be a step in the right direction.

I do not believe his comments were personal. He would say the same if he observed all the other schools. It just so happens that he observes CHS; he is a city boy.

I don't know how this evolved into a city/county thing; I was just trying to make a point that there is a major need for a turning lane there. As for the ones saying "boo hoo" and "learn to drive", maybe it won't be your daughter or sister laying on the side of the road when one of the big rigs goes over the top of one of the student's car, but karma is a bitch...
