The problem with our county schools is the fact that all of our teachers have retired!!! I will say this before i go on, there are a few good teachers out there, my hats off to you, but for the rest of the one's who are just showing up each day to get a check shame on you. That is if they even show up,, and someone mentioned parent teacher meetings,,,REALLY, i quit going because its a joke. I dont need to see my childs grades, test scores etc, I've already looked at them every night he comes home. Tell me how we can help his grades. Now on some occasions you might just spend your time trying to understand what they're talking about because they are having difficulty even focusing on where there at " for whatever reason" and they smile and thank you for coming.

can't tell you how to help there grades if you lazy parents want even try! First thing you do is go to the meeting and act like you care. Less than 20% of parents now even give a crap! How many of you have sit down and tryed to help your kids? 0! Then you want to bitch about teachers! Parents as a whole suck!

You know what? Sadly, some of you are right. Some parents don't care and those are the children who need teacher support and encouragement almost as much as they need the lesson. I've had kids who other teachers told me were bad kids, or problem kids. The 1st day, I'd make a point to shake hands, pat em on the back, make eye contact, and various other things just to let them know I cared. 95% of the time, I never had a minutes trouble out of those kids. If i gave them respect, they gave me respect! I've had kids who came to school hungry and didn't have money for break. They can't learn like that!!! Sometimes something as simple as a smile and just asking "how's your day" will make all the difference in their attitude and grades!!! It's easy to do and it's free. Any teacher who is in this business to make a difference in the life of a child will take that moment or two to help a student. Let me share this story that occurred about 4 years ago at one of our schools and then i'll shut up... I have a friend (also retired now and also a loved and caring teacher) who was called to the office and reprimanded for bringing food to a child and helping him with his homework during break. His mother was dying of cancer. There was no father and this child was sleeping at the hospital with his mom, then catching the bus to school. Many morning he came without his homework and without much money, if any at all. But, we at the ASD had to follow the rules that state no kids in the hall during break, so she was told to stop! Can you freakin believe that?!!! She explained to the principal why the child was in her room and the situation he was in, but it didnt matter to that principal! Being the person she is, she continued anyway!! Seeing as other teachers had warned us all to NEVER go in that office alone, she just decided that day when she was called to come to the office to put her phone in her pocket and record their conversation. Since we were very close, she let me hear the recording. I WAS FLOORED that anyone in charge of students could be so cold hearted toward a child that was going through such a traumatic event. That, folks, is/was what's going on in this district!

Amen, " gone but not forgotten" you are so right!! There are still some in the system that care and my son even told me of a teacher helping with his math a few weeks ago. I replied to him, son I misunderstood I didn't think you had the particular teacher this year.. True mom, but this is one teacher you were right about. This one will help and take time out to help. Thankful there are some still there and hoping that there are some changes made in the ones that don't.
