Just wonder if anyone else in the county feels like the system needs a change. There are some things I don't understand. We pay taxes and money for our children to have the best education possible. Wield thing is, if a child is having problems and you call the county system to try to get help and you get told a bunch of bologna. Take two or three days to try to follow procedure then have to call back, never once had the superintendent been there supposedly to talk to a parent. And never called back either. I'm just curious as to how the after school program works. Don't the school get money for these programs each semester and they have to have a certain amout of failing students to get the money for the program! Just wonder if this would have anything to so with a child getting failing grades in two subjects that has been a straight A intellectually gifted student entire time child has been in school. I'm thinking they may shaft a couple each class to make sure they get the money. I also know they cover each other if anyone has questions or concerns they will give you the biggest run around or sweet talk you and pat you on the back n make you feel like its all your child.

and by the way you are not a concerned citizen. If you were you would ask people questions that could answer you. Change your name to a "Bashing citizen."

For your information I don't drink. And sounds to me you are the one trying to bash someone or drunk yourself. No wonder our whole world is going to piss.

well I have noticed that kids that go from A's to failing usually just got their drivers licens or just started drinking and doing drugs. Might should check under the beds.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, I can say that I've read the most stupidly ridiculous statement made on Topix, ever.(That's saying a lot.)

So, let me get this straight? You think, in a nutshell, that your child's school is giving him/her Fs they did not earn in 2 classes, just to keep funds for some kind of mystery "programs?"

ARE YOU SERIOUS?

I could write for days about the stupidity of this statement, but let me just ask... Have you ANY idea at all how schools work?! I'm certain your child's teachers do not hand out Fs like handfuls of Skittles... The teachers have tons of paperwork to fill out on each failing student, due to state regulations. When a child fails, it's actually more work on the teacher.

Have you ever considered, maybe...just maybe...you child is actually struggling?

Are you actually saying that it could be the CHILD'S fault because of the failing grades? The CHILD'S fault? You must be mistaken.

After school is there to help..those tutors are there long after the day eparent help. My middle schooler was struggling. She did great last year, but every year is different with new challenges every day.I appreciate the program and would never bash it. if not for it my child would have to wait until later each night to get any help due to my work schedule. We do have to study when we get home. But that's my choice. That's my job as a parent to make sure she knows what she needs to know.My child's grades have improved with the extra help and I'm grateful. Kudos to after school programs and their tutors.

check your college honor rolls and you will see Kossuth kids all over them from state to ole miss to southern! Proves to me that if the kids aren't prepared that the parents need to do their part, every kid has the chance to learn but if parents don't help it is useless! and the parents of alcorn county kids are awful as a whole! Talked to one teacher that had over half the class failing and on parent, teacher conferance not a single parent showed up. Schools are not the problem! Parents are!

You never know if a student's sucess in college was because of or in spite of where they went to high school.

If you don't like alcorn school district when the state passed charter school bill there will be a lot of changes in the system. See the money will follow the child and he lives in county and want to go to a better school he can. More competition between schools make a better school system

and less money for each child with your idea of competition.

The problem with the schools isn't the students. We voted out a superintendant that wasn't doing his job and voted in a dictator who favors one school over the other 2. I apologize for voting for Gina rogers Smith-Castro.That will NOT happen again. I would rather have the one that embezzeled all that money as i would her. She wouldn't get my vote now for dog catcher.

You are right it is not the students directly; it is their parents.
The parents in Alcorn County including the ones who teach at the schools and whatever it is that administration does are all responsible for the condition of the schools. There are few parents who have a clue about education and none of these hold school board positions or possibly administrative positions in this county. To much concern about getting an agenda for our child to get the agenda bus of education for all children out of the garage. All to much concerned about getting the most recognition for my child to think about getting the people that will provide the best education in charge. Let them do their job of educating without interference. If they do not produce; fire them and hire more starting with administration.

After 28 years of teaching, I saw many straight A students go from all A's to failing grades. I can assure you, there is NO conspiracy to fail any student, especially now with the tons of paperwork that have to be compiled with failures. You might want to check out new friends and acquaintances.
