Yes they should. Separation of Church and State. Local vote counts, too. Politics have NO business inside of a religious building.

Explain to me how what they are doing violates their tax-exempt status.

How would one go about reporting/enforcing interference or modification with this? Contacting the IRS?

Section 501(c)(3) of the Tax Code prohibits all non-profit organizations, including churches and other religious organizations, from intervening in political campaigns as a condition of their tax-exempt status. See IRS Publication 1828, pg 5-10.

What they are doing is against the law dumbass

You do realize political campaign is talking about candidates, right? I don't have to explain to you that a referendum isn't a campaign, right? I don't have to explain that a lot of non-profits are in fact based around political issues, right?

This looks pretty clear to me. I wouldn't want my contributions to not be deductible.

Legislation includes action by Congress, any state legislature, any local council, or similar governing body, with respect to acts, bills, resolutions, or similar items (such as legislative confirmation of appointive offices), or by the
public in a referendum, ballot initiative, constitutional amendment, or similar procedure. It does not include actions by executive, judicial, or administrative bodies.
A church or religious organization will be regarded as attempting to influence legislation if it contacts, or urges the public to contact, members or employees of a legislative body for the purpose of proposing, supporting, or opposing legislation, or if the organization advocates the
adoption or rejection of legislation.

Consequences of Political Campaign Activity
When it participates in political campaign activity, a church or religious organization jeopardizes both its tax-exempt status under IRC section 501(c)(3) and its eligibility to receive tax-deductible contributions. In addition, it may become subject to an excise tax on its political expenditures. This excise tax may be imposed in addition to revocation, or it may be imposed instead of revocation. Also, the church or religious organization should correct the violation.

Jesus should turn them all into wine for all the whino's to drink up in place of the booze they are blocking and then the catholics should migrate down from the north and tell the bearded hobo what a fraud he is and have him imprisoned and electrified by the atf for crimes against grapes.

There is a simple, sweet, lazy, elegant phrase our culture has produced. Fuck it. I wish people would heed to that instead of campaigning against every little thing.

Very true. Not to mention everyone is fooling around with one another there. They also read aloud the names of people who signed the petition, so wrong on any level. Bunch of liars and hypocrites.

It's a public document. If you didn't want anyone to know you signed it you should not have signed it

That is not the point. They read the names out loud to shame people. No one is breaking the law by having a glass of wine.
I live in the county so cannot vote but I know people who signed it and no longer go to that church because of this. I agree, it was wrong. Just my opinion though.
