i have had chronic 24/7 lower back pain for about 3 years and it goes from some pain to alot of pain throughout each day. i cant lay in bed all day because i have to work to support myself and i dont want to be on disability. doctors tell me to take tylenol or they give me tramadol and neither of them work AT ALL. i have tried chiropractic, phys therapy, and steroid injections. it doesnt help. not even hydrocodone works on it. i have two options: getting a nerve block injection directly in my spine(they wont do it cause the MRI doesnt show enough damage)--- or getting prescribed a stronger pill (e.g. Percodan/percocet). i tried two percocets one day and my back felt like it did before my injury even happened. but docs wont prescribe it to me because of legal issues and also my young age of 24 makes them think im trying to get fked up on pills. WHAT CAN I DO IM MISERABLE.

Sounds like you would REALLY like some hardcore pain meds. You don't need em they'll grab u by the nuts. Look into acupuncture. Heard it works. I know the spinal bock works.

Go to another doctor. Don't accept this.

to chet: i know that pain meds are addictive but the chronic pain is worse than the chances i might become addicted because i could detox with certain meds if that becomes an issue.

chet: i am well aware of what addiction is like. someone close to me who is anonymous is an addict. i have seen horrible consequences. but pain also has horrible consequenses if left untreated. i have not been addicted but i am dependent on a drug called Paxil and if i discontinue its use then i have withdrawals. this is the same thing that will happen on pain pills unless i take more than the recommended dose--thats what causes addiciton.

So what do you want to hear? You know you want pain killers. What exactly do you want to know?

Welch! BUT all doctors have rules they go by and if your MRI does not show enough damage to back them up with state to prescribe percs.. Then you are out of luck!

Is it just your back or does it affect the feeling in your leg and foot also? I have had bad back pain on my very lower back (just above my pelvis). This lasted for about 6 months. I tried chiropractor and pain meds. Neither worked that time. The chiropractor does help me most of the time. I was having numbness in my foot and down the back of my hamstring and butt cheek. I read up about Sciatica after nothing helped. I put my billfold in my other pocket and after about a week, no pain. My billfold was pressing on my sciatic nerve causing my pain.

An inversion table helps a lot also. When you are hanging upside down, it takes all of your weight off your spine and stretches your spine. This can help if you have a slipped disc or pinched nerve.

The chiropractor usually helps me, but you have to go more than once. It usually takes 3 - 4 visits over a 2 - 3 week time for me. I do have insurance, so the copay is not expensive. If I had to pay the full amount each time, I could only afford to go once or so. That makes a difference. The only chiropractor I've used is Dr. Budny, and his adjustments work for me and my wife when we need him. I am sure others are good also, but he is who I've used for the last 7 years
