Why can't Mississippi get a state lottery?

Why can't we get a lottery like TN? It has raised millions for education in TN! There schools right here close to home that can't even get enough funding to buy the proper amount of textbooks for students! There are hundreds of people who drive to TN to get lotto tickets giving them money!

So what if Mississippi has Casinos? There are other states that have Lottery and Casinos both. I can name a number of states that have both just off the top of my head, New Jersey, Illinois, California, Washington, Florida, Louisianna, and many many other states that have both forms of gambling.

Playn the Tn lotto makes me day dream of what i would do if i ever won. I could help so many people. I would much rather be giving my $ a week to my own state.

Yes MS has casinos, but most of the revenue goes to where ever they located, not solely to the state!

I've always thought the biggest reason for Mississippi's problems is school size, and a lottery wouldn't help much.

When MS has hundreds of schools that have to have self-sustaining facilities, cafeterias, bus routes, and administrators, just to graduate 20 or 30 kids or less each year, money isn't the problem.

Some things are simply inefficient at any budget...and this I fear is one of them.

MS is a dumbed down state. It's secretly used by the Government as a test model as to how low living standards can actually go and still have
Civility from the population.

If you look at maps of comparative poverty and overlay a map showing high concentrations of lotto ticket sales..you'll see a nearly perfect correlation.

State lotteries are regressive taxes levied on the poor to pay for services the wealthy don't want to pay for, like education. Winning the lottery is a fantasy but many poor and working class people indulge because of the almost impossible chance they could win and escape the grind of poverty and dim economic prospects.
