That is so stupid for someone to say, if you own pets you take them out when they need to go.

why is that blame a dog for the people that raised it that way. pit bulls are loving dogs they protect what they are taught to. i think that people are wrong for the way that they think about these poor dogs the are not human they are dogs that should be justfully treated.

I feel that the owners of these dogs should be forced to get Liability Insurance. Pit Bulls are very dangerus dogs. This will cover Hospital bills, and or any Law suits

The pit bull is a mean dog,It's in there DNA,they have been breed or should I say inbreed so many times, the animals can't help themselves. They are good natured one monment and their brain is triggered to go off for no apparent reason on the violent side. The dogs need to be euthanized, actually the whole blood line needs to be expelled.Good luck to the elderly lady and the dog.The owners need their punishment and quit making excuses, its your responseability for the dogs behavior.

Allot of insurance companies will not cover a person who has a pitbull. I found that out because I have one.

Normally, being out for a walk at 3am puts you in greater danger
from 2-legged animals; that is something you might anticipate.
HOWEVER, regardless of the time, a group of dogs like this attacking
someone is NOT the walker's fault, nor can you be surprised when
the owner of the dog initially attacked tried to protect her own dog.

Just look at the way pit bulls owners here have tried to protect
their breed by blaming the lady who was the victim of their attack:
(1) she should not have been out early,(2) she should not have
tried to protect her dog,(3) the pit bulls were not attacking a
human, but rather biting an arm in the way of their intended dog victim,(4) pit bulls get an unfair bad rap, which is not true,
since they statistically are in the very top breeds of dog attacks.
Pit Bulls have killed many humans, especially children and senior
citizens, neither one of which can run nor fight very well.

What should you do to protect yourself against dog attacks, especially pit bulls which ARE trained by many owners to attack
humans? The best answer is a Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit,
followed by regularly being armed with an effective caliber handgun.
The best defense against dangerous dog attacks is to show the
arriving police officers where the attacking dog collaped when it died.

First, I certainly hope Ms. Marshall completely recovers.

Second, I personally have heard the pit bulls fighting one another in their own back yard on more than one occasion. It is frightening. They should be put down.

These dogs attacked another dog and had bitten a defenseless person a number of times and were running wild. That was enough reasonable cause to use deadly force on these dogs. Iam glad it wasn't needed and the other alternatives worked. Now I would love to see the owner of those dogs face harsh criminal and civil charges for having and allowing these dogs to run loose and failing to control them. For the sheriff's deputy that worked this call you have my commendation for handling this situation without having to kill these dogs. Even if you had too shoot any of these dogs it would have been justified for the following reasons.
1) The dogs were out of control
2) The dogs attacked another dog causing injuries.
3) The dogs attacked a defenseless elderly woman causing injuries.
4) There were to many of these dogs to control individually.
5) These dogs were raised to be vicious dogs by their conduct.
6)These dogs are hard to control individually in an unarmed situation because of their high tolerence to pain and their strengh.

Here we go again! Another irresponsible pet owner I was horrified what happen to that poor lady and her dog, now three more dogs will have to be kill, when will this city wake up and make people responsible…. you say we can’t do that! Well I bag to differ if every pet owner was made by law to get an ID chip in there dogs, they would think twice about the consequence of there dog action, plus we would have less dogs out on the roads no unwanted pups, this would also make it hard for the dog fighting scum to have a dog, and the money they get from fines on people that ignore this law will help to monitor and control this it. As I’m a responsible owner of several rescue dogs that have ID chips in them, and most of the people I know have there dogs chipped as well.
Banning breeds is not the answer, this breed was a well loved dog until ignorant, sick, lowlife got hold of them and decided to make them mean…so what happens when these lowlife can’t get a Pit Bull or a Rottweiler, German Shepard, Doberman, they will just find another breed.
So come on City wake up.

This really angers me. I saw on one post that these same dogs have been involved in incidents in the past. I have lived in my house for 17 years and have a fenced yard and pit bulls (all rescues). To date none of my dogs have ever ran loose in the neighborhood, nor have they hurt a human. They are house dogs, family pets, and responsibility owned. Dogs are animals and if they are not owned in a responsible manner (contained in a fenced yard or home, they will get into trouble - so will children. Dogs that run in packs (two or more) have a different mentality that dogs that run alone. Three large dogs running at large is a recipe for disaster, no matter what breed they are. Animals cannot be held to a standard higher than humans. These people should not be allowed to have dogs. I am praying that Ms. Marshall makes a speedy recovery. And what a testament of her love for her dog that she put herself in danger to protect him. Saying a prayer for Ms. Marshall. I hope her dog is okay.

Pit Bulls, if treated properly, are NOT very dangerous dogs. Some Pit Bull owners are mean and dangerous people and some people fight Pit Bulls. Some of these dogs can be aggressive but they can also be rehabilitated. All but two of Michael Vick's dogs went on to live happy and productive lives. One is a therapy dog in a hospital. Look up the story about "The Vick Dogs" and you will see. To say they are all "very dangerous" is an excuse to abuse this entire breed.

I know many people who have Pit Bulls and the dogs are just as sweet as any other...because they are treated well.

I live in Cordova too. I'll go on record as saying that I don't think it's wise for any woman or man to walk alone at 3AM, in any neighborhood....but that is besides the point.

The owner of these dogs was irresponsible to allow them a way to get out of the garage.
My small dog was attacked by three labs but do we say that all labs are dangerous?
My little dog was attacked because she had gone into their territory. Fortunately she survived.

I'll mention this, too. Not all dog fights occur in the ghetto. They are in Cordova too. My first thought was to check out this owner. Is he fighting dogs? Just a thought.

Dear Mrs. Marshall: Please retain a reputable law firm to file a civil suit against the stupid jack ass that allowed this to happen! Wishing you and your pet a speedy recovery. Criminal neglect charges should also be filed. I am appalled that the STUPID JACK ASS is not in JAIL, where he should be.......PUT HIM THERE!!!!! Some body should throw him on the ground and let a few tuffjaw pitbulls gnaw on HIS ASS for a few minutes!!! WHY IS THE OWNER OF THESE DOGS NOT IN JAIL!!!!!

To answer your question is Michael Vick was the vicious party here. After all he was the one that either trained these dogs or had them trained to be vicious. If you were not a vicious person then why would you train these dogs to be that way?? Protection and security doesn't count because that requires obedience training which his dogs didn't have. If you can truthfully answer my question then you will have the answer to yours. respectfully

I have a daughter that lives on Meadow Trail Cove and I was walking my two schnauzers and her dog in April 2009 and these dogs came after me and my dogs. I ran to another house where the garage door was open and had the owner of the house call my daughter to come and get me. She picked me up and got all the dogs in the car and I went to the house were the dogs had come from and told the owners their dogs attached me. Later in the summer my daughter and another man walking his dog were attacked by these dogs. No telling how many people have been chased by these dogs and the owners knew about them and did nothing. They are the ones who should be LOCKED up. THEY have these dogs and did not train them or make sure they could not get out of their yard. They just moved in the house last year and I am sure these dogs have been chasing and scaring people all this time.

Why ban the animal when they are not all like that. My dog is great around everyone. She is a 60 pound lap dog and if you just saw her on the street she would not look like a pit. I do not let her roam seh has gotten out maybe 2 times and has listened to everyone that has told her to come and we are called and go get her. She has yet to hurt anyone. Even people i have work on my house she just wants to play with. Liek any other creature they just want love and affection.

People are not against pit bulls. They are against allowing these animals to roam and attack humans and other animals. I wish the breed could be banned, not to get rid of them but to protect pit bulls. Against dog fighters and those that mistreat them. I see in the hood thes poor creatures with log chains around their necks, no food, water or shade. THese owners need to be chained and recieve the same treatment. Some don`t even have a dog house. Makes me sick...the city needs to push for a law against chaining animals.
THis is beyond cruel. Helen and Skye we are praying for your recovery. You were both protected by an angel.
