Why do we have so many people who live outside the city trying to run the city business? Why are they not making any attempts to annex themselves into the city limits? How about the Editor of the News Journal? He lives outside the city limits but always has his nose stuck in city business, why can't he write an annexation column on why his area should be brought into the city????? If he really cares about the city why would he not want to annex his area??

Come on there Mr. Editor, start that annexation drive in your area? When can we expect to see that list of names and when will you present it to the city for review, were waiting???

OR-----Do you just want to give us your opinions but have us pay all the bills???

Problem is here Jess I already pay Corbin Taxes, the rest of these folks do not. Maybe when you have some responsibilty other than just driving around looking for something to do you will understand what responsibility & accountability actually mean.

My guess is you don't own a home in the city nor anything else but like our friend the Editor you ready and willing to give us plenty of advice, find a place to live and try contributing to not only your community but support it with your tax dollars.

Your like many others, you want something for FREE! Grow up and contribute or go away, we need help and real tax dollars, not advice and trouble makers who just roll in and then roll out.

Just because someone lives outside the city limits does not mean they don't love Corbin.

What about those who pay payroll taxes to the city or buy business permits. Do they help pay the bills?

So what I live in Corbin, pay ALL the City Tax's and work in Laurel County. Guess what, I have to pay Laurel County paroll tax's but I can't vote there and have no say in Laurel County business.

My advice, if want a voice in the city you need to move in and be a part of what is unfolding. What is with you people who think you have some type of birthwright to interfere in the city's business?

Go help the County you live in become better and leave us all alone.

If a person owns a business in Corbin they certainly pay taxes and should have a voice. Don't really understand your problem with people who have an interest in the city but don't happen to actually reside within the city limits. I mean be realistic, housing is very limited in the city.

Lazdaz has gone the cheapo route. Lazdaz chose not to pay city taxes on residence and chose not to pay municipal insurance tax on homeowners and car insurance because Lazdaz chose not to reside and vote in the city. Life is full of choices. Lazdaz made his. The taxes that a non resident business pays to the city is for police, fire, etc. on that business and nothing more. Lazdaz wants to play but does not want to pay. The cheapo route will not get you a vote in the city election.

What are you talking about the taxes a non residence pays goes to police, fire, etc? The last I knew. The city does not designate certain funds for certain departments. It all goes in to a general fund and is disdurtibed by the budget, which does not take in account where the money came from.

The city tax money a business pays to any city is for city services and the right to operate in that city. People operate their business in a city because they get more business than stuck out on 5th St Rd or some other cheap location. It has nothing to do being a resident of that city and voting in their city elections. I think that was what Cheapo was saying. If you want a say in the operations of city government then move into the city. Otherwise stay where you are at and call your county magistrate for services.

No offense Bob but there is a big drop off in the quality of the businesses when you drive under I-75 on Cumb Falls Rd leaving the city. Cheap metal buildings, gravel parking lots, portable signs and plenty of weeds. You can tell where the city stops.

I am glad you shop in Corbin. I do too unless I have to pay a whole lot more for the same product. I also agree that Corbin does have some blighted spots but the KFC area is not one of them since that is in Laurel County and not in the city. Many of the side roads off Gordon Hill Pike are out of the city too in fact all of the side streets past the civic center are Whitley County and not Corbin city. I accuse no one of causing trouble. I did not start this thread.
