That track has so much potential, it's a shame someone hasn't really done much with it.

It truly is a shame that with having a track so close by that you really still don't have no where to race. After the late models buy there tires and fuel, there's nothing left from the winnings. I really wish the track could make it but the way it's going now, I can't see it happening. When we first started racing there, you would have to get there early to just get a seat in the stands. My husband would sometimes leave at 11:00 to be able to get a spot in the pits. I think the downfall of the track started when he started not having the late models every night. Some of the fans didn't want to come without the late models running and it just got to confusing to know when they were going to be there or not, so they just quit coming all together.

If they change owners or John cared about the cheating going on this could be a much better environment. The race track will never be anything under the current conditions. With the cheating, etc. the races are almost fixed. John has his favorites and turns his head when they doing whatever they want. As long as he gets the 25 per car he is fine. There is one driver that he knows is cheating and even brags about it. He races 3 series sometimes 4 series so he gets plenty of money from him. The best way to fix the problem is have the drivers and sponsors boycott the track until something is done about it.

I'm afraid that if John sells the track, the people next door will do the buying and that will be the end of a local race track. I do agree with you CS Driver that the track doesn't need to play favorites. If you're a favorite, you've got it made but if you're not, watch out.

Siler Implements? I doubt they would buy the track. It would have to be someone who is willing to spend a lot of money up front to buy the track and fix what needs fixing. I think if it was ran right it could be profitable.

I wouldn't worry about it, every 25 dollars that John doesn't get is a victory for us.

I think you're talking about Ed Murray? He cheats all the time, but he is John's buddy. Ed is a disgrace to the speedway.

I'm talking about the developer of those big houses next door to the track. It has been rumored from the day they were built, that they have tried to either buy the track or cause the closer of the track. If it goes for sale, I would think they would be the first person who would want to buy. If they do, it will be bye bye race track.

We have been racing at the speedway for close to 15 years now. It is truy a part of Corbin's history and would love to see it continue to be a part of our town. Although the track could use some work, I really would hate to see it tore down. Did you know that Corbin Speedway has held the only NASCAR race in Kentucky? Lee Petty won the race and it was 1954 (I believe).

I love how drivers who lose want to call everybody else a cheater. That must be the only way to pick your pride back up. I go to the races and I see who ACTUALLY cheats and sometimes they get what's coming to them and sometime John is nice enough to let it slide. But he never lets it slide more than once.
John is not selling the track. In fact he has added three new sponsers, several commercials via airwaves and flyers, and is making money this season. If this track goes down, Corbin will no longer have anywhere decent to go on Saturday night. That is the real shame.

I so hope you are right Corbin Speedway Fan. If my husband didn't have the races to go to, he would surely die. I hope the new sponsers works out for John. I hope these new sponsers help him to pay out more to the drivers.

I think you have it all wrong. Explain Jason West being DQ'ed 3 times? Explain Ed Murray bragging about cheating?

John is not making money this season, he will tell you that himself. The sponsors were replacements for the ones dropped. A few others are going to pull out after this season. You can pretend all you want but its not reality.

I hope someone destroys the track. I get so sick of hearing about all of the rednecks that go down there. You can smell them from nearly a mile away.

I can see how you'd think that from not going there. I'm not exactly a redneck, but I'm not the norm either I suppose.

Very good points. Hopefully some of the drivers who are complaining will do something for themselves to take care of the lack of money instead of blaming a poor business owner. Get your own sponsers people! That is how you make money racing.

There has been so much talk about the newspapers not giving Corbin Schools any coverage, what about the lack of coverage they give to the Speedway. Relay for Life is big in our town and not one article that I saw said anything about these drivers coming out and racing for NOTHING for the Relay for Life race. There was so sort of coverage at all regarding the Saturday night activties and I sure didn't see the winner's mentioned. I feel these drivers need to be commended for coming out. Yes, some weekly drivers didn't come but there was a good showing of cars. It is not cheap to run some of these classes and I for one want these guys to know how much I appreciate them. Cancer is a scary thing and I'm sure alot of these drivers have had it to touch their families in some way and I think they did a great thing by showing their support to such a worthy cause. Thank You Drivers!

I second that. It did sort of tick me off that all of the Relay for Life ads didn't even mention the charity race the following night. Sort of screwed themselves and the track, if you ask me.
