Is it legal?
In the US, no the same in lots of other country’s but it is done in about 20 other country’s these countries include: Iraq, Africa, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey but Egypt has now banded it.

- What is it?
Female circumcision, also called female genital mutilation, involves removing part of a female’s external genitalia (reproductive organs). It is a cultural practice that began about 2,000 years ago in Africa. Female circumcision continues to be practiced by some tribal African cultures, as well as by some Middle Eastern and Indonesian cultures.

-Why is it done?
In many cases, female circumcision is done as an initiation into womanhood. While the age at which the procedure is done varies with the culture, it generally is performed before the girl reaches puberty. Among the reasons for the procedure are to ensure that a female is a virgin when she gets married and to reduce the female’s ability to experience sexual pleasure, which decreases the chance of extra-marital affairs. Some cultures also believe the clitoris (the small mass of highly sensitive tissue located near the opening of the vagina) is dangerous and must be removed for health reasons.

-How do they do it to a female?
There are about 3 different types of it and they could be many more, here are the 3 main ones I know about
- Sunna circumcision, This involves the removal of the tip of the clitoris and/or its hood or covering (prepuce).
- Clitorectomy circumcision, This is the removal of the entire clitoris and the adjacent labia (the external and internal folds of skin, or lips, that protect the vaginal opening).
- Infibulation circumcision, This procedure involves performing a clitorectomy, including the removal of the labia. The tissues are then sewn together, leaving only a small hole for the flow of urine and menstrual blood. In many cases, a second procedure is necessary later to allow for sexual intercourse.

-Is it more painful then male circumcision?
What I do know is that in most of these country’s that do it, it is done without an injection so very painful but it would be the same as male circumcision with out an injection. All most all new born boys’ that are circumcised are done without injection.

I'm surprised anyone in this small minded town knows that female circumcision even exists. Truth is, it's all wrong. Male or Female, It's all painful, and it's all pointless. (:

The practice, while fairly rare, does exist in some cultures, especially extreme Muslim beliefs. Performed to suppress female sexual gratification as the belief is held that females are not entitled to this form of pleasure, and are only to be available to satisfy the husbands physical desires and to procreate. "Circumcision" is an inaccurate description as it applies to the practice of removal of foreskin sheathing the glans penis as a hygienic measure. Mutilation is the correct description and it utterly barbaric.

Why does everyone think its natural to mutilate their little boys when they are born? I think a God would not have made the foreskin just to have it cut off???

Because foreskin is as arbitrary as an appendix. Traps waste and promotes bacterial growth. It's much easier to keep the yang clean without the schmuck. Consequently, I don't recall my circumcision, and I'm willing to bet nobody else does, that's why it's done immediately after birth. Now if one waited til the boy was 8 or 10, then it would barbaric.

urine does not come out the vagina. it comes out the urethra. a small opening between the vagina opening and clitoris.

Arlo, you're a colossal moron. My son isn't circumcised, and never will be. The only reason someone gets circumcised later in life (at 8 or 10) is because they don't properly clean it. It's mutilation to circumcise a baby at birth. It doesn't matter if you remember it or not, why on earth should we put our children in that much pain at birth, on the off chance that they may, possibly have to have it done later on in life. America and Israel are the only countries that really practice routine circumcision of baby boys, and all the other countries, babies are born intact and die old men, intact.. And the function of the foreskin is to keep fecal matter from going into the urethra. The foreskin is tight, and covers the urethra until urination, when it separates and moves so the urine can flow out, then it goes back to the normal size. The foreskin DOES have a function.

Both of my grandfathers had to be circumcised late in life due to health issues. One was in his 70's and the other in his 80's. I was told it was not a very nice experience but had to be done due to skin cancer. Never say never.

It wasn't started on men to keep them from enjoying sex,and has no bearing on it.Different on girls in Arab lands it is exactly done to keep them from ever enjoying sex, because to the dunces women aren't people. It would be the same thing as them chopping off a mans whole penis.

BTW, my husband and I watched a documentary on this a year or so ago. Females were sitting in a romm and a young female sat on the floor. The older woman of the group went out of sight and returned with what appeared to be a knife. The other females held her ins the floor while the older woman mutilated her genitals with the knife. I sat sobbing on the couch while my husband was wrenching in the bathroom. Her crime: she had just started her period. I work as a health care provider in this town and have only encountered one female with this circumcision. She will be forever traumatized by her circumcision. Maybe we should start cutting the tips of penis' off at around the age of 13.
