I was always told all the job listings are on csx.com . As of right now, there are many jobs listed, but none in Corbin. Most are in another state.

A job as a conducter wow. Here's the deal ! Hire in for corbin , loyall, or cincinnati to corbin . Go to Atlanta for several weeks. Come back train( cub) for couple months. Get marked up where you can work on your own. Then get laid off for 4 to 6 months every year probably for the first 5 years. And your laid off from November Thru march or april. When you do work you will be placed in Cincinnati away from your family days at a time. It's okay if your single and no kids.
Now Csx only allows 1 day a month off.

Sit 12 hours a day on a train every day almost. Or in a hotel . Answer the phone 24 hours 7 days a week. All hours sleepy, tired ,sick, or whatever . Can't plan anything and miss out on life.

Physically it is easy. No lifting or anything. Sure you have to be able to lift a 75lbs nuckle but you rarely ever do. Hang on a car. Mostly Just sit and ride .

Mentally it's draining always having to guard the phone or sleeping while family is out having fun.

Take a job with CSX and they own you...

Railroaders in my family (most old timers from L&N days, a couple w/ CSX).

Good job and great benefits (depending on where you work and the kind of job you take). You have a great pension (or you used to, not sure what they offer now).

Heard it has changed to the worse from the old days, but in this economy....well, just saying, it is still a very good job when you railroad. Good luck to all applying and for the person with a degree and looking for work, good luck to you too. Hope things start looking up for you soon. Will pray you find work.

I know several people that have already applied for the conductor jobs that were posted for Corbin a couple of months ago. They have already had their interviews and strength test. Their status online sayes ready for hire, and ready for hire congratulations. They have been waiting on their phone call for 2 months. When I was hired on I waited on phone call for 3 months.

Everything you say is true. You can only mark off once in a 28 day period. After Oct. 25th even if you did get hired in at Corbin, you are on a system wide agreement and you're not garenteed that spot where you hired in at. Somebody with more senority can come from anywhere and take your job. Make CSX your last resort as a job.

It amazes me how every thread on the internet leads to someone calling people names for no reason other than they disagree. Why call them stupid? Why does every disagreement lead to some smart aleck know it all getting personal? Just because someone doesn't work for CSX doesn't necessarily mean they'll be living in poverty. CSX isn't the only employer that offers insurance either. I'm sure someday they will "drive cars". I'm sure they can go to college as well if they choose. Have you ever heard of student loans and grants? Lots of money does not solve all ones problems. Sometimes kids would rather spend time with family rather than have a bunch of material things.

You all keep saying csx sucks.. No, conductor job sucks.. Signal workers, track workers, bridge workers have great jobs!! 4 days a week, 10 hours a day. Track workers work 5 days, 8 hours. Man that would suck!!! As a kid, my father never missed anything in my brother or my childhood.. Gosh csx sucks huh? Also, conductors can hire in at Louisville or Evansville, IN and come back to Corbin.
