My daughter has one, and she hasn't had any problems with it. It is kind of annoying that you must dail the area code for local calls. I am considering getting one.

How do they work? Are they hooked up to a computer?

The old ones plugged in to a USB port on your computer, then you plug your phone in to the Magic Jack. The new ones plug into a power outlet and you plug your phone base into it. You can use cordless phone with them.

Price use to be $19 a year, but now is $30 I believe. I've had one for 5 years I guess and it works great. Free long distance anywhere, just dial the number. No sense in anyone have a land line with Magic Jack as cheap as it is. Works great, sound is great, never any problems. I would def get one if I was you.

We've had one for over four years... it's really good. You may even ask about keeping your present phone number ....my one Complaint and its a doozie .... no customer phone service..
Which I find ironic..
Other than that..its great
:-)

I have had one off and on for about 5 yrs. First time not trouble in line but was only trying it, had home phone so didnt think to much aboutand they didnt have local then, just let it go. Second time for over a year now, and discovered that, and don't know why, but depends on what phone, cordless, corded, how it works. It really is nice to have, mine plugs into computer itself, but I am thinking of getting the other one soon. It really is nice to have.

I have had one for over a year. We have the one that plugs into the wall and then into your router box. We do have trouble with it sometimes,(when the internet goes down) but other than that, it has worked great. It is still only 19.95 a year. I think we paid like 80.00 for the set up, but that includes your first year of service. If you have really good internet, I would recommend it.

Would not recommend MagicJack to my worst enemy!! I have had it for more than three years and other family members has purchased it a year ago, 4 households in all. We are all going with our net carrier for a phone, Mom who paid for five years cancelled 2/4/13, mine I got 2/5/13. The problem started this year with M-J blocking my calls to my power board/Net carrier, my Mother was blocked from making any outgoing calls (At 81 she could not have called 911. When we tried to contact them the (800) number connected us will an outlet mall, the only contact is through a live chat... good luck with that b/c if they don't like what your trying to get answered they break the connection. Like I said "not even my worst enemy!" It's worth paying a bit more for good service, I think they are going under.

Never heard of anyone being blocked. Free long distance can't beat that. Mine works great and always has. Don't listen to the ones that don't know what they are talking about. You have to dial the area code for every call, obviously they don't know how to use a phone.

go to google mail otherwise known as gmail and make all the calls you want for free, you can't be called but you can call out and it works better that magic jack because you don't have to have it hooked up all the time just when used.
works great

What's the big deal about it being hooked up all the time? A regular phone has to be plugged in all the time as well, no difference and it's free long distance.

I'm surprised Vonage is even in business, they suck compared to Magic Jack.
