Honest question: Why should one vote for Merrill Smith over Clarence Brown?

Smith openly says he wants to send kids and $$$ to Corbin schools. It is on his election card.

Why would ANY Knox County citizen allow him to win a KNOX board seat when he clearly has 100% interest in Corbin and not Knox County schools?

He ( Merrill) done anything for Knox County it would beat what Clarence has done. The employees don't never get a raise and look at the test scores. Hullett don't do without his raises. Guess who votes to give him his raises, the board members. If u are a friend of Clarences u may get some help from im but that is the only way. Time for a change.

I like browns write up in the paper, about the field house he helped lynn camp get,he just forgot to mention the amount that was alotted to do it, I heard 225 to 250 thousand and they mysteriously ran out of money before they were finished and brown done all the labor for free. figure that one out,and as for helping only corbin you should have read all that smith stated, TO HELP RAISE LYNN CAMPS SCORES!!!!!!! I know you didnt see that part, sorry, my kids will never go to lynn camp, thanks for the laugh.GO SMITH.

How is Smith going to go about raising Lynn Camp test scores himself? Take the test for students? He is backed by a group who 1. Don't want to pay for kids or grandchildren to go to Corbin or 2. Don't want to lose the thousands of dollars Corbin will lose or the next 4 years. My guess both. He is 100% for Corbin connections not what he can do for Lynn Camp, that's just blowing smoke when he even mentions Lynn Camp. Smith situation kind of like Pepsi going all out to make sure Coke Cola can be successful. That would never happen. He is telling a lot of people he can single handed change Knox Co. and Lynn Camp, Board does not work that way. I bet he couldn't even find school office, lunchroom, gym, or any other part of Lynn Camp. He had no interest in the place children always at Corbin, wonder why so much interest now? Have to ask his Corbin Connections I guess. Brown not great by any means, but at least he has Lynn Camp not Corbin $$$ as his main concern.

When my son played football at Lynn camp I know Merrill was one of the main sponsors of the car show to raise money for the football team. He also donated money for tshirts for weightlifting meet to coach Mitchell. He did graduate from Lynn camp.

Well that's great, with a business in Gray's and LC graduate, seems like T-shirts would be the least he could do for Lynn Camp. Sounds like he liked Coach Mitchell and football, not Lynn Camp the entire school. Mitchell is gone, not saw Smith name on any other school related t-shirts. Makes no sense to put someone in who wants to help Corbin not Lynn Camp, heck they got all they need anyway.

Walter T. done if the 3 running for office get back in. He is such a smooth talker he can get Smith on his side, only needs one to stay in control, has 2 already, Brown sure not one of them.

yes smith told how him and his wife were LCHS graduates and said he was proud of his 2 sons but he failed to mention they are Corbin students. I'm sure he's not going to be putting them in at LCHS if he wins the election. Why such and interest in the this school system when your children are not even a part of it? Knox county residents who LOVE Corbin just want to vote him in so they can try and change the votes on the reciprical (?) agreement. He wants to send his kids to Corbin but he doesnt want to pay tuition for them to go there.

If Clarence gets back in just try to be really good friends with him and he will get u what u want. Neither one thought that Lynn camp was good enough for their kids. But look at it this way I guess they want their kids to get a good education. It is ashame that Knox County is about the lowest rated in Kentucky. The state will probably take over pretty soon.

Clarence gave Hulett raise, 100% grade to the state department.Him talking about removing Hulett isn't nothing but election talk. Hulett not going anywhere if Brown gets elected back. How about trying to make our school where people want to send there kid ,not try to make them go,

Hulette is done at the end of school year regardless of who gets in. Brown didn't give him a raise. It was a majority vote. Smith promises a lot for Corbin maybe he will hold true to his word and help Corbin parents out and get rid of the silly tuition stuff. I can't afford to send my 3 kids to Corbin if tuition is continued. My kids go to Corbin now use to be in Laurel so I have no pull in Knox Co but I live in Knox co voting district so I guess my vote will go to Smith he has Corbin's best interest. Knox must be a bad place when one of the school board members running for election is for another school lol. Heck helps me though so I'm for it.

<quoted text>Browns oldest son went 12 years to Lynn Camp and Grays schools, the other until 7th grade or so. That was about 25 years ago long before Clarence was even on board, a long, long time ago! So he is up 18-20 years to ZERO on Smith's kids with Lynn Camp attendance. Will Smith be bringing his son to Lynn Camp on Wednesday from Corbin if he wins? I'm sure he will because that move will help Lynn Camp right?
My son went to school with his oldest at west Knox . Maybe your facts aren't so good.

In my opinion, if you don't send your children to the county, you shouldn't be able to vote for the county school board members. I'm afraid Merrill will win, it's a shame the Knox countians that have NOTHING to do with Lynn Camp will be the ones that put him in. Funny thing is, he will NEVER be able to do a thing about the reciprocal agreement. Knox has too much money invested in the fight. That is aDONE DEAL.

Any TAXPAYER in the county can run for school board. Doesn't matter if you have children or not.

These Knox Co. parents DO HAVE something to do with Lynn Camp. They are being forced to pay taxes to Knox Co. schools. Knox Co. BOE wants the SEEK funds from their kids but does not educate them. SO if Lynn Camp wants the children (money) "these" Knox Co. have every right to make sure the failing school (not failing teachers, but leadership)makes changes! And yes they made it very clear with the vote today!
