I am fed up with the horrible service form local servers at restaurants. There isn't one particular restaurant, but all of the local restaurants seem to have the worst waiters around. I go out of town once a week and the different is night and day. Here they are lazy, rude, and expect a ten dollar tip and half the time they are so horrible that someone else has to bring the food and drinks out!

From this moment on, I think we should stop tipping. We didn't make them choose their job so why should we have to pay them?

I have to agree with part of the first statement. Who came up with this tipping crap? Why should we have to pay someone to do their job? Shouldn't that be the restaurant owners job? No one tips me to do my job. I get a flat salary and that's it. I refuse to give some waiter / waitress 15%- 20% of my bill.

You are an idiot. So just because I don't want to tip I shouldn't be allowed to go into a restaurant? With the bad attitude that you have, YOU SHOULDN"T BE ALLOWED TO SERVE!

yes, if you don't want the restaurant experience then stay home and eat or go to a fast food joint. i tried waiting tables about 3 decades ago. the work if both physically and emotionally exhausting. even more so when having to deal with cheap ass jerks like come on, okay, and well (and more often than not thinks the world owes them something special because they are spending a little money). but that seems to be the status quo of the local crowd here. i can't tell you how many time i lie to my friends about leaving something in the restaurant just so i can leave more of a tip without making a big scene. you people who without reason stiff your waitstaff for part of their income should be ashamed. and to those who have told a waitperson they get no tip for working on the lord's day (sunday), what the hell are you eating out on the lord's day anyway. how bout this, let's increase minimum wage up to $10.00 an hour (including waitpersons) and let the restaurant fix that into the cost of a meal for you pathetic cheap morons.

No one said they weren't appreciative. If you will READ what everyone is posting the argument is tipping is nuts. Servers should be paid from the restaurant, not depending on generosity of patrons. It's bad enough restaurants charge 5x what the food is really worth, but expect patrons to pay their employees as well.

So, "Blue Collar Girl", you proved our points that most servers are rude and not entitled to tips.

I think it's the other way around. Obviously, you think the world owes you something because you carried a tray of food. No one made you or anyone else choose that line of work. You agreed upon the wages when you took the job. You knew that some people tip and some don't. I'm not saying I don't tip, because I do. However, I do not tip 15%. I am just saying the tipping practice is outdated. Servers wages should be paid by the employer.

About 30 years ago I waited tables and the work was hard and fast.

As a patron what is it you want? What do you call good service.

And yes I belive resturant owners should pay a decent wage and by decent I mean at least $11.00 an hour. Places like Craker Barrel and Applebees, the larger places.Of course your meal is going to cost alot more. So what would you want a $10.00 meal or a $20.00 meal? It has to come from some place.

What I don't understand, is places like Golden Corral, where you get your own food. Why are we tipping there?

Servers get $2.30 an hour. Our paychecks depend upon tips from customers. It isn't always OUR fault if the food isn't cooked promptly. We are all at the mercy of the kitchen staff. If kitchen workers hold a grudge with us - they make our food late - or all 6 tables food ready at the same time.

Don't be so quick to blame the server.

Besides, its not like a "rocket surgeon" would take a job waiting tables. Be kind to us - we are the ones that could spit in your food!

Actually I WAS A SERVER in high school. Then I went to college, got an education, and moved away from this crap hole and saw how the world is supposed to be. Servers in this area ARE NOT SERVERS - THEY ARE MODERN DAY BEGGARS! They are too lazy to either get a real job or go to school so they want everyone else to give them something for nothing. When I go to out to eat, I MIGHT AS WELL HAVE WENT TO A BUFFET because I usually have to serve myself, and yet you all still want a tip?!?

That's the truth. Most of the women around here only waitress so they won't loose their welfare checks, free daycare, foodstamps and medical benefits. Just enough to qualify for benefits but never enough to move ahead in life and get off the draw system.

I worked a 28 - 32 hours a week at my regular job - took 15 hours of classes at EKU, and worked double shifts at London on weekends. AND I was in my 30's, single, childless, n used of daycare, had no foodstamps, it wasn't for welfare.

Not everyone takes advantage of the system!

Yes, and you were probably one of the good servers who actually worked for and deserved a tip too. Understand that the point of this conversation is not to bash ALL servers or rightfully deserving servers; but the general overall horrible servers who are in this area. Those servers do not deserve a tip. They really shouldn't have a job as a server either.

So by paying them ten dollar a hour means.
1. Half the servers will be fired.
2 your food prices will go up 25-40%
3. If the remaining servers get 10.00 why would they even try to give better service. They get paid the same for bad or good service.

I have yet see one post that said they talked to a manager about service. Why?????

now bad servers get little tips means they will be quiting.
