I'm a single mother who works hard and in this day and age, we need all the protection we can get. I'm looking to buy a gun when I get my taxes. I have lots of female friends and truly no one to ask about a gun.
PLEASE men, tell me what is the best handgun. I've heard about, "The Judge", but not sure. Just want to be able to defend myself.
Thanks

Don't rely on people on topix-go to your local police department and ask, also ask about a concealed carry class so you can learn how to use one safely. You will get a permit after finishing a class.

Men? You only want an opinion from men? Okay.

I would suggest a .380 or a 9mm for a woman. Both are fairly small and easy to conceal. Also, both do not have much recoil when shooting. The guys at Kentucky Outdoorsman are great at helping you find a gun that suits you. I also agree with the other poster about taking a CCDW class. They teach you basic fundamentals and most importantly the law.

As a person who owns handguns and female, I have the best aim using a .380 or 9mm. When shooting a 40 or 45, I get trigger anticipation, no matter what I do. Glock is a solid investment, easy to take apart and clean. Own a baby Glock for when I get my ccw.

I come down to the area from time to time, and would be willing to show you some safety things and let you try out some handguns. A safety course is a great idea. There are basic courses, but with a ccw class you get safety plus the license.

Good luck. Are there any ranges in the area? May want to look at local gun clubs too.

One more thing, a .22 makes a good gun for practice. Ammo is going up in price lately, and .22 is cheap. My husband and I both own .22s due to this.

my wife has a 9 shot revolver,at best she shuts her eyes and counts to 10,serious,she stays in a 3x3 feet range, she is getting better, revolvers are best for her but a trained person might disagree and you might ask someone who has experience,im more of a point and shoot and hope for the best.

Nothing less than a .35 caliber is recommended for defense due to knockdown power issues. This means that the smallest weapon recommended would be a 9mm,.380,.38, or a .357(all .35) are the smallest that are feasible considering actual knock down power. The strongest of these are the .38, and. 357 mag. Personally, I would recommended a s&w .38 bodyguard. They are small, light, and have decent knockdown power. It is a revolver so less upkeep.
Knockdown power is only relevant when facing a highly motivated attacker. During a regular home invasion a. 22 with blanks would scare the intruder away.

The majority of shoot outs happen at extremely close range with only a 10% hit rate, so without training, it most likely doesn't matter what weapon you have. Everyone will have a favorite weapon, and advice, but the fact is, if you aren't a professional (and maybe if you are), all you are going to do is make noise, which a. 22 will do just fine. Make sure you find someone toteach you safety, accuracy, and maintenance, and get what is most comfortable for you.

Buy you a .38 caliber revolver. Ammo is reasonable and the gun is simple to load, shoot and clean. It also has enough knock down power to handle any intruder. My wife has a S&W .38 and she loves it. You dont need an automatic for a first gun. Take advise from an old vet who has been around firearms all his life

Don't be an ass. You don't know my roots or situation. I'm Kentuckian by the grace of God. I'm currently on college up here, yet graduated down at Whitley County and Cumberland College. I'm offering assistance to be nice, per OPs request. Both of my parents are buried outside of Corbin, where I also lived for 15 years. Kentucky girls know how to handle a gun, and you don't want to piss one off.

To the OP, sorry for filling up your serious replies with this kind of BS. I will never call myself a Buckeye as I've bled blue since birth and hate stuck up know it all jerks who spout off before knowing anything.
