I've seen the most accomplished athletes in the past listed on here. I also know what I have seen with my own eyes in my own era and as far as athletic talent (in high school) I would have to say these guys in their own skills were the best I have seen in late 80's to present (high school athletic ability only)
Best Football player-Dale Fox (was listed in USA today in 1987 as one of the top rated runningback recruits in US) the name rated one below Dale's was named Emmit Smith.
Basketball-Tony Pietrowski (first time LSU head Basketball coach had ever been to Corbin, KY)
Baseball-David Parsons (if he did not have knee surgery 4 times he would have been pro .505 avg his senior year in 94)Mariners made offer to him before they knew about his knee.
Best all-around pure raw talented athlete that I had ever laid my eyes on was Chris Ledington (In his prime Chris Ledington could play any sport he wanted to play) I have never seen a more untrained, because he was untrainable, more agile or more raw athletic talent than was given to that kid; he just didnt know what to do with it and didnt have a role model to guide him; so he ran, purly; and beat the best (sprinters) yes sprinters, in the country! my goodness what a waste. From my eyes
Re: Chris Ledington. I, too, have witnessed first hand the raw athletic ability of this young man. To see what he could do on the track was amazing considering he very seldom trained. Reminded me of Pete Melzoni from Cumberland College.

The "76" State Championship Team made up of these great players: Steve Bird, Kenny Gilbert, Bill Cummings,RC Thomas,Rusty Onkst,Ric Hensley,Terry Jackson, Roy Taylor, Kevin Brock those are just some of the standout players.
Then we can move on to "80" State Runner-Up Team made up of: Terry Jackson, Roy Taylor, Richie Francioni, Ric
Hensley,Brandon Pennington, Chris
Vermillion, Greg Pace, Jeff Gomez and the
list could go on and let's not forget this era
had the greatest Coaching Staff with Archie
Powers, Cotton Adams, & Clyde Burchette
leading the way!!
These Coaches will tell you there hasn't been another team or players of the caliber of these teams yet to come out of CHS since that time!
GO BIG RED!!!
no doubt these were the glory days of the program. i have no idea what has happened to each of those players & coaches. it was the best time of my life and all those ole boys were not only the best, they were bull dog mean.

really did not know sometimes if the game was an organized fight or a game? the experience was electric.

That's sad. Someone should have bought them some new shoes so they could stop better.

Kerry sipple was a tenacious basketball player! All that watched him liked how well his game was. Without him on those teams they would have nevered been as good.

Tony Morton and Tony pietrowski the most talented basketball players. Steve Bird is the most talented football player he has records that will never be broken and is still a D1 coach at USF. Dave Parsons and Vin Hoover were the 2 best baseball players I seen they both flirted with pro baseball they could knock the crap out of the ball. Lora Jody and joellen petrey definitely held there own on the tennis court. And I'm talking about the last 40 years the Birds and Selvys were the bomb back in the day Bird is in the rafters at Rupp thats big time. Paul Lanham was a monster as a freshman at Corbin and still holds almost every freshman record. Dale Fox was also a beast on the field and a super nice guy. Curt Hart is an all state db from Corbin has int records

I didn't go to highschool in Corbin but my husband has told me the exact same thing about Chris. Told me the best God given talent was given to this man. Just didn't have the right guidance and was wasted
