just an idea, and I need to do more a little more research.
From my current understanding of Brookhaven Town Code, and having dealt with them extensively for nearly 2 years over an illegal rental...
If you file a complaint with the town for an illegal rental, then YOU cannot file another complaint for the same reason for the same property while the town is doing an investigation. So the issuing tickets weekly as they are supposed to do, never really happens. They do it at their pace.
So what if we the residents living here and watching our properties being devalued, the quality of life degraded by these out of town non-resident landlord pick of the litters that move into these properties, actually form a viable technique to take these people down one at a time.
Find an illegal rental. Post the address here, there and everywhere, and everyone who reads it, file a complaint. They are a friend of a neighbor who has seen this happen.
1 complaint does not seem to matter. File 100, 200 or 500 complaints from 500 different people against every house that gets posted, and now the Town has a job to do.. If for some reason they find they cannot, thats what we as taxpaying citizens have Article 78 filed in a Federal Court for.
Just an idea..

There are so many ilegal appartments, most Basement and absentee landlords there is nothing we can do about it now. They say 40% of houses in mastic and Shirley have illegal appartments and take CASH in thats not reported to the IRS and tax thats does not go back in to the community to fix or repair things and schools.
This is why things are bad, the Mastic and Shirley residents are out for themselves and really do not care.

Illegal rentals are a major cause for concern. They can be either owner-occupied or absentee landlord owned. The house will be generating more garbage, and sewage than is allowed for the lot size. Tenants who park in the street congest the narrow roads. And, if each apartment has 1 kid going to school, they are getting a free ride at your expense.

Single-family homes pay school taxes based on one family living there. This hurts everybody.

Income taxes are likely being evaded (rents are paid in cash and not reported).

Now that Mastic Beach is a village, it will be able to monitor the situation. It is actually very easy to identify an illegal rental. For example, a basement door with the light on, garage door removed and a side door installed with an overhead light, and how about a real easy one....the owners live in a house in Dix Hills, and the people living there park on the grass, throw their garbage in the yard, do not cut the grass, allow litter to pile up, have 2 pit bulls chained to a railing, have loud all-night parties and arguments...do I need to go on?

Detractors of the village will say they will target a senior citizen with perhaps an unregistered accessory apartment to help pay the bills. But, wouldn't the Village be more likely to go after the houses with real complaints instead? Of coarse, that is what they will do.

it is easy to give out summonses. it is hard to evict people. it costs alot and is time consuming. it could take up to a year to get a renter out if they have kids. i think it is important to keep going one illegal rental at a time.

hey i hav an idea i work for the town of floral park but own a house in shirley the way we catch the illegal tentants is no one is allowed to park in the streets after 2am, and if your car brakes down on the curb you have to go to the police station and report it as well as appear there for every day till you get that car off the streets. i should be mayor lol come on people it's not rocket science to fix the problems we havr to just stick together and fight for our down and get rid of welfare (only the looser ones)

The problem is your dealing with Idiot's and Morons in Mastic and Shirley. Most uneducated, drop outs, who are on Welfare, Foodstamps, and collect workers compensation and Social Security Disability.
They are taught how to Scam the system, and work it. More welfare in Mastic Beach and Shirley than anyother tons on LI. Even Wyandanch has a lower rate then either town.
They calculate all the illegal appartment, absentee landlords - I own a few houses that I rent to the skells of Mastic and make a nice income from it.
the only thing you OWN is a case of the CRABS!

William Floyd plans substance abuse clinic at high school

Faced with growing numbers of students in need of help for drug and alcohol addictions, the William Floyd School District announced at a school board meeting Tuesday night a plan to house a substance abuse treatment clinic at its high school - the only such treatment facility in the state.
The outpatient clinic, which still must receive state approval, would represent the most dramatic step...
I think this is horrible news. How is this "program" going to be funded? This is another example of the State, or County trying to get their obligations funded by US. My kids don't do drugs, why should I have to pay for the others who do???

After seeing the article, it says the parent's health insurance will be billed for the treatment. But, I still question why this is being done on school grounds. There is likely a need for this treatment among teens in this district, as well as other surrounding districts.

I believe if a child is suspected of using drugs (even alcohol), there should be requirement that the child be referred to a proper treatment center. But, I do not think a school environment is the proper place.
