I was in Operations on the Height Finder Radars, we had 2. The FPS-90 and the FPS-26. Wu used to have weekly PACE (Performance Anylasis by Continuous Evaluation) flights to test the radars(had to be within 1500feet) and the communications.I used to call the aircraft on radio and only callsign I used to identify the radar site was Z-12 or North Bend Radar. I should say hi to Alma Cruse :)
Hey Joe. I don't know how you remember all that information.:-) Hope you are doing well.

My sister is married and lives in Los Angeles. My father died a few years after we left North Bend. We spent alot of time at the NCO club. There was a chicken dinner on the weekends during the summer. After eating I'd run outside and kick my friends while "Kung Foo Fighting" played on the juke box.

I was there from 73-75. First assignment out of tech school. Worked in the Search Radar Tower as a Radar Tech. Had some great times there, great people. I think about those days quite a bit. Left for Tatalina, Alaska in the summer of 75.

He was an electronic counter, counter technician...(watched for airplanes on the radar under the bubble among other things.
My parents still live in the area.

I was stationed there from Oct, 1960 to May, 1962 as a radar operator, and probably would have known your Dad. I played on the base basketball team. We had a great base commander, Major Schmidt, who supported our team. I was where he died several years ago.

I was there from June 1962 until March 1965 and my job was Radar Repairman. I still remember how good the food was, especially the SOS cooked by Hank Styles. Weather was great too. Had a lot of fun fishing as well as hunting. Great duty!

I remember Hank - SOS was outstanding - hit mid-night chow as much as I could just for that. Hank was also good at straightening you back our. I left in Nov 64 after 2 years there - really liked my tour there. When I lived on base, my room-mate was Lee Eubank - I am sure you knew him - he kind of marched to his own drummer

My Dad was there from about 1976-1979. For me that was K-3. It was a utopia to a kid. We lived on base housing. A bunch of 1 story homes with a playground and the best kids. I remember friends like Scott Wedmore and Mark Armstrong. We attended Sunny Hill Elementary. I saw a google earth image recently....houses are gone and google shows no record of our old school. There were some other families I remember well. The Captain had a kid named Matt. The Bredeson's, etc.... Great times!

Wow! I just found this page. I was stationed at NBAFS from January 1969 - I got there just before the "snowstorm of the century" - until April 1970. I married a "local" and, thank goodness, we're still married.

Yes, I remember them all Garrett and Iím sure Walter L. above remembers them as well. I had a lot of fun while stationed there. I believe youíre Mom and Grandparents lived up near Reedsport at the time. I was in Radar operations and your Dad and Grandpa were in radar maintenance. I was embarrassed years later when on the way to California. I drove up to the old station to show my new wife where I had spent 18 months of my life, only to find it had turned into a correctional facility.
Greg Sprague! My name is Jim Riggs, I was there from January 1969 until April 1970, and I remember drinking with you at the club and other places on a number of occasions! How the hell are you? I married a local girl and live in Arizona.

I missed the post by "Garrett" whose parents where Ron Chew and Sharon Martin. I knew both of your parents when I was stationed there. Your mom's dad, was an SMSgt or CMSgt (can't remember which) if I remember right, wasn't he? Are your parents still alive? I hope so, and if not my sincere condolences, they were wonderful people.

Well, hi there Jim. Yes I remember us raising a little hell a few times as well. Mr. Riggs it is sure nice to hear from you. Good deal on finding a local wife and living in the beautiful State of Arizona. Well when I got out after my 4 years, I moved back to my home Town of Spokane and finished school. I then joined the Spokane Police Dept. and hung around there until retirement. The kids are all gone and the youngest boy is married and in the Marine Corp. The wife and I live about 20 miles South of Spokane in a small farming community, couldnít wait to get out of the city life. Iíve talked to Walt Loevenstein a couple of times over the years, who you might also remember. Walt lives south of me down in Walla Walla, WA. Other than that I have lost track of all the old buddies. Hope this finds you and the family well.

Hello to Greg Sprague and Jim Riggs. I haven't talked to Greg in quite some time but would love to do so. I talked to George Kobar but it has been years ago. I remember a guy from Arizona who worked in radar maintenance and had about 7 or 8 guitars including a 12 string. He taught me a few chords on the guitar. I also remember rooming with a cook that was always late to work. Trying to remember his name. Anyway, I had a great times there and made a lot of friends. I then got stationed in Fallon NV before I got out in 1971. Hello to anyone that was there at the same time I was. I would like to talk to anyone who would like to talk to me.

Loved my time at North Bend AFS from '71 to '73. Worked in Civil Engineering right out of Tech. School as a HVAC Tech. I also ran the base gas station during my lunch hr. and then an hr. after work weekdays. Had a great boss Frank Bassett and my OJT trainer Sgt. Sam Autry. I lived on the local economy in the town of Lakeside and spent a lot of time water skiing on Ten Mile Lake, also riding my dirt bike on the sand dunes near by and along the many logging roads in the mountains. My nighttime was spent as the manager of the local Drive In theatre...not a bad gig for a 18 - 19 yr. old Airman, it was a party there every night and the local ladies were very receptive to say the least. The base commander didn't like my party attitude and had me sent to King Salmon Alaska for 14 months, wasn't too bad there, did plenty of salmon fishing and of course partying with the locals. I finished my 4 yr. enlistment at Sunnyvale AFS in California. I worked for a number of years as a Civil Servant traveling around the world before meeting a wonderful woman who I married and moved with her to central Louisiana were I still live and work today. I raised two wonderful children my Daughter is a Radiologist and my Son a Professional Golfer. I now spend my free time golfing, fishing out of my camp at Toledo Bend Lake and yearly trips to Sedona and Moab to rock crawl in our Jeep Jk. I met some good people along the way and most are still in touch today.
