I live in Ducktown, the neighboring town to copperhill and I refuse to go into Copperhill anymore because of the speed trap and corruption of the Copperhill Police department, the mayor, the city recorder, the police commissioner and any other city official who is affiliated with this horrible situation. The police are pulling people way outside their jurisdiction and bullying around our entire town. I would be interested in a class action law suit if victims as well as business owners who's business have been hurt due to locals not patronizing Copperhill. If anyone finds a willing attorney, let it be known. The corruption in Copperhill needs to end. They will get what's coming to them, each and every one!

I visit Copperhill on a regular basis. I got stopped by the Police there recently for speeding 35 in the 20 MPH zone. But the officer was very nice and let me off with just a warning, after pointing out the clearly marked speed zone (it was MY fault after all).

This town is no different from any other one around here - Blue Ridge has many police officers, so does Ellijay, Blairsville, and don't even get me started on Benton! They ALWAYS have an officer sitting on 411. But thats what they are supposed to be doing. Everyone crows about "corruption", but I think thats just talk in Copperhill, certain people there seem to just not like having a police department - but I guess the place needs one just like everywhere else. I've found if you treat the police halfway decent, they usually treat you halfway decent back.

Are you guys out of your minds? I bet if they were not around they would be at the nearest Dunkin dougnuts and a bunch of fatt butts right? Give me a break! If you do not break the law, you will not get pulled over. I just paid a $400 ticket from Lauren County, the cop did not make it up, I was speeding..... If a speeding car hit and killed your child would you feel this way? I can not believe we complain about police presence.

I live here in copperhill and when you need the police you can't find one. but I do believe if you break the law then pay the price. My husband owns a business in Ga/Tn our daughter was hit by a speeding motorist leaveing copperhill, he left the scene he was later picked up charged with DUI /drugs and leaveing the scene . So needless to court day came and it was thrown out due to no basis. so if there doing there job let them .but they should'nt hang a poor man either. This town consist of alot of good people and we need them so I do agree if they are hurting our business .They could move it down the road some but if there drinking and want to get more call a taxi we do have them or just stay home. Thank God my daughter is o.k she is real scared now but no broen bones. She was with an adult but the veiw from the steel bridge is not so good when crossing. If this town is so worried then they need to do something for our children theres nothing here for them to do unless our churches provide it.So instead of argueing lets get it together.

Most will never appreciate a cop unless they see him take one in the chest for them. Most never think of what they do until you meet their widow. They are judged more then any other career field.
Amy I am sorry that scum got off, but that was not the cops fault, it was the States fault.

I am a Copperhill native, born and raised.

There is no perfect town.

Copperhill will always be crooked, so will every other town. Ducktown is no better, McCaysville is no better, even Blue Ridge and all of Fannin County have their problems.

I don't live in Copperhill now but, we all know what's going on.

Everyone wants to complain until they need a police officer. I believe things are a lot better with the new Chief of Police. So what if you own a business, does that make you special. I would not use a business like Runway Fireworks that does not support the police. You obviously have no idea what these men and women do for you to have a successful business. I am sure they really love to keep you and your business safe all night while you sleep and then wake up to bash them. Most of what I have read in this forum is ignorance, you really should get educated on what you are talking about before looking so dumb. One example is jurisdiction, know what you are talking about before you open your mouth.

That was vague.

Perhaps you should take your own advice instead of adding to the ignorance already on the forum.

Rafter, you hit the nail right on te head!!! what corruption? ducktown is mad cause she see's copperhill cars out of the city limits but, what she fails to realize is those guys have 1 MILE jurisdiction outside the city limits.. It makes her so mad that he has to abide by rules which she has obviously never done, I hope the officers read ducktowns comment " they will get whats coming to them, each and every one" sounds like a bodily harm threat to me..
