I am rather curious how much most residents in cove pay for thier water bill that live in a house. I just moved to cove a few months ago and my water bill keeps rising even though my water usage is declining. I never run the dishwasher. I fill both sides of the sink and do them that way. I dont use my washer since it's broke and I often take very fast showers. Since my children are very little, I bathe them together. I just went out to check the meter and its not running excessivly. I'm not sure what to think after being slapped with a $90 water bill after conserving the way I do. Also another thing that concerns me is my first bill I recieved was for a 6 week period because of my move in date and was only 70$ and I used more water then I did this last bill which was 90$. I have called the office numerous times and of course I get the run around. Perhaps I will just file a complaint with PUCT after taking photos of my meter. Any suggestions?

Take a look at the readings on the bill see how much you have used. Our bill runs from $90 in the winter and about $160 plus in the summer. Sounds like you have a leak if you are conserving. Check your toilet it may not be cutting off.I bet that your useage was after the cut off period for the fist cycle where you say you have used more than the last period.

Usage for Sept was about 7200. Bill: $72 For Oct it was about 4700 that bill was For $68 and I questioned them as to why is was so much when I used quite a bit less then September. They couldn't give me an answer and I got the run around. This month was for 6600 and it was $90. Even if I have a leak the usage vs. costs aren't making sense to me. I think I'm just going to send copies of my bills and a letter to PUCT because the Cove office just isn't listening when I'm telling them there is an issue some where.

You have to understand the water bill also contains the charge for sewer use and the garbage pickup fee.
A small water usage of $50 can jump up to $100 easily when you add in sewer and garbage.

SG: I completely understand that. What I'm having an issue with is why am I being charged more for water usage when I'm using less water. As far as I can see my sewer and garbage fees don't change.

Where did you move from? Cause I will say I've NEVER had a water bill as high as I do since moving here! I hate it!

There is also a $6.00 drainage fee on most water bills.

I lived on post for 5 years here. I was a military spouse for 15 years but now that I'm divorcing I'm having to relearn all of the civilian world things. Where I was misunderstanding was the waste water usage charge. I had that confused with something else. Like I said, total blond moment :) Funny thing is, my electric bill is cheaper then my water bill this month and that's the one thing I hear the most complaints about. I was dreading my electric bills but they have been really reasonable.

You have to consider the city is paying for the over one million gallons of water they wasted without being able to charge anyone for.

I would question that. I think thier is a grace period between the due date and the late fee date. I will look at a past water bill.

I think they changed it. Used to be they'd give you like one week before they charged a late fee. Now if you don't have it to them by the due date they hit you up for late fees.

I was on vacation and when I drove into town I picked up my mail. Water bill was due the day before, so I went directly there to pay and told them I had been out of town...still had to pay late fee!! If your bill seems to be going up while usage is stable, check the toilets!!! A leaky toilet can be 800 gallons extra, without flushing! Cover your outdoor pipes in this cold weather.

Fees are put there for a purpose. If you don't put a deadline some where then people won't pay at all.

My wife went in the morning after the bill was due and they had not even cleaned out the outside box but they still charged the late fee. Next time she just put it in the box and wasn't charged anything. This city tries to wring every dollar they can from the people living here and penelize us for everything they can think up. And all for that almighty $. Instead of support and service it is all about what they can stick the people with.

I was late once on a bill because the postal service never delivered it and at the time I didn't have a claender with various bill due dates on it; I do now. When I discovered that I was late I immediately paid the bill, explaining the circumstances, and the Utility Department waived the late fee. That might have been because I had a 20+ year record of paying on time. But, so much for their trying to wring every dollar out of residents that they can.

I'm afraid I may have stolen someone elses identity as well. Sorry about that new2cove v.1. I will try to get more creative. Whomever said it was a leaky toilet was correct. My bathroom toilet runs 24/7. I'm trying to figure out how to fix it right now. The little bar that adjusts the water height is jammed pretty hard.
